<code-ninja> well then, I give up compiling the kernel for A23 and A31 till the time there is some support available. The code is too buggy. I can start work on fixing it but I'm not paid for it at work so I'll do it when I go home and have all the time of the night.
<ccaione> code-ninja: very few people here are paid to work on sunxi ;)
<code-ninja> Even u-boot for A31 is buggy. It gets build if I do not supply the CONFIG_SPL option. If I pass CONFIG_SPL=y, it stops and throws errors saying "undefined reference in start.S" see here: http://codepad.org/gkMLT78T
<code-ninja> ccaione: I know, right?! Sunxi is awesome, its just the support ain't that good. I had no problems playing with A13 and A20.
alexvf has joined #linux-sunxi
<wens> that's because SPL isn't supported on A31 and A23
<code-ninja> oh, well I didn't know that. :/. I got a u-boot from somewhere for A31... http://git.rhombus-tech.net/?p=u-boot.git;a=snapshot;h=refs/heads/allwinner-sunxi-a31;sf=tgz
<code-ninja> it has SPL configs. If I talk like a retard, there is a SPL folder which only has makefiles for sun6i
<wens> don't think that one is supported by us, though we do use it as a reference sometimes
<wens> as for A23, I can tell you there is no SPL support, either in our tree or Allwinner SDK
<code-ninja> so... I cannot boot a Linux kernel from an SD card, right?
<Turl> you can, but you need to use allwinner's boot0 and then chainload uboot

<vector80> Hi there
<vector80> In the latest 3.4.79+,
<vector80> When I scan i2c bus via i2cdetect -y 1, I get a lot of "incomplete xfer (0x20) or (0x48)"
<vector80> Is that normal ?
<vector80> In the same hardware, when I run same command under android, there is no such error
Net147 has joined #linux-sunxi
discopig has joined #linux-sunxi
blsd has left #linux-sunxi [#linux-sunxi]
<Turl> vector80: that message is from the kernel log, check dmesg to see if it appears also on android
<Turl> vector80: from what I've seen, it's harmless and just indicates that there is nothing on the other side of the i2c bus at that address (i2cdetect sends messages to all addresses to probe the bus)
<vector80> Turl: Thank you for your reply, but pls note that aw kernel does not report such thing
<vector80> on the same PCBA
<vector80> So, may be I can try to connect to my board via SSH,
<vector80> so those messages would be filtered
<vector80> Let me try it
<vector80> Waw, when connect via SSH, ( not debug UART), those "incomplete xfer" messages are displayed in debug uart, so SSH messages are clean
<Turl> it uses printk directly :/ it should be on a debug or info log level
<vector80> But I see some other problem now
<vector80> scanning i2c bus 0,1,2 is fast
<vector80> but when scanning i2c bus 3,
<vector80> it is extremely slow
<vector80> Can you see it ?
<vector80> pls try i2cdetect -y 0 ( 1 and 2), see scanning speed, and then try to scan 3
<Turl> on what SoC?
<vector80> A20
<vector80> I just tried same thing under android, and it is very fast, all 4 bus is same speed
<vector80> Oh my god, Turl, you are right, under android, those incomplete xfer also exists
<vector80> but strangely, it doesn't print it on the debug uart
<vector80> but when I do dmesg, it displays
<vector80> However, there is still a problem, scanning i2c-3
<Turl> vector80: do you see any error on uart (apart from the incomplete xfer) when it is slow?
<vector80> Let me try 3.4.61+
<Turl> vector80: is your fex configured correctly on i2c-3?
<vector80> let me check it too
<vector80> Let me put my android fex also:
<vector80> Above is my Debian Fex
<vector80> Here is my android Fex: http://sprunge.us/iSCC
<vector80> twi3 are same I think...
<Turl> it looks correct
<vector80> Do you have A20 board?
<vector80> Ok I have hummingbird and Olinuxino A20
<vector80> let me try on them also

stoupaxyz has joined #linux-sunxi
<vector80> Let me check
<vector80> twi4 ?
<vector80> Is there a twi4 on A20 ?
<Turl> vector80: yes, on pins pi2/pi3 (right next to twi3)
<vector80> Ok, let me check schematic
shineworld has joined #linux-sunxi
<vector80> Turl: very sorry, but it didn't worked...
<vector80> I patched the file, added twi3 and twi4, but still very slow
<vector80> I will test same thing on other boards also
<Turl> vector80: make sure you add also the apb counterparts
<Turl> see the patch
<vector80> yes I added them too
<Turl> vector80: do you still get i2c-3, xfer timeout?
<Turl> or some new error?
<vector80> xfer timeout happens on both android and linux
<vector80> for i2c-3, the problem is the speed
<vector80> scanning i2c-3
<Turl> found some more issues
<Turl> I will give you a new patch
<vector80> Ok, let me see it
<vector80> emilio, do you check these with a real hardware, or you just see the code ?
<Turl> vector80: try this http://sprunge.us/XEdE
<Turl> vector80: I'm just looking at the code and user manual, I don't have any hardware handy now
<vector80> Well, I will try to send you a hardware for free
<vector80> Pls wait
<Turl> vector80: I do have A20 hardware, just not handy now :)
<Turl> but new hardware is always welcome if you really want to

<Turl> hipboi: an A20 SoM? cool :)
<Turl> hipboi: is that a normal credit card behind it?
<hipboi> yes, normal credit card
<vector80> hipboi: Do you sell this board?
<hipboi> vector80, for customized projects
<vector80> Oh, too bad
<Turl> hipboi: that's very small, cool :)
<vector80> I would like to buy it and use it
<hipboi> but if people are interested, we can also consider and sell it
<vector80> Such as, say... 500pcs
<vector80> Can we talk privately ?
<hipboi> that's a good starting number
<hipboi> vector80, ok
<Turl> vector80: I just sent the patch btw
<vector80> Turl: you are no:1
<vector80> Thank you soo much
<hipboi> btw, we use tSD instead of nand flash
<Turl> hipboi: I've heard of that, I think they were planning to use it for CT as well
<Turl> but I've only seen CTs with nand
<hipboi> Turl, the design of CT has some problems with tSD but they never change it
<hipboi> we are planning to make cluster based on these modules
<Turl> hipboi: for HPC/Big Data?
<hipboi> Turl, yes
<hipboi> we have defined a standard interface of the module
<hipboi> so seamless upgrade to future som

<Turl> libv: is P88 one of those tab formats?
<Turl> libv: I just noticed ojn has a teclast p88
<Turl> but I don't see it on the wiki, at least by that name
<libv> a lot of our regulars do not bother with documenting their hw
<libv> p88 is a rk3066 or a a31
<libv> there are no a31 tablets documented.
<Turl> libv: A31 in this case
<Turl> libv: interesting the PCB says W001Q-V1.0
<Turl> libv: here's the pics http://goo.gl/bAWbmR
<libv> Turl: i really can't be bothered to care
<libv> honestly, only new people tend to care about documenting their hw
<libv> everyone else just can't be fucking arsed.
<libv> i wonder why we even have a wiki.
