Nikolaus finished his work on Pyra (more or less) and will continue Neo900 now. And I managed to make a deal with our great guy xiangfu in China, to get the N900 "mech parts" sourcing split into two batches, so *maybe* we can have both: securing the mech parts for existing preorders, *and* satisfying 'late' preorders (during next 1 or 2 months)

a 5 some minutes after that http://dosowisko.net/cccamp15/20150816_002b.jpg photo, we had a camp evacuation thanks to the thunderstorm that started. Alas it trunkated / prematurely aborted Paul's Replicant talk
<DocScrutinizer05>
sorry afk, need more sleep to recover from all that :-)
<DocScrutinizer05>
[2015-08-22 Sat 15:41:12] <smiddi> DocScrutinizer: im camp-wiki findest du bilder mit entsprechender lizenz. vll. stammt das von da
<DocScrutinizer05>
[2015-08-22 Sat 15:41:30] <DocScrutinizer> hmm >>All of this content is gathered automatically via links in IRC. Please report any abuse.<<
<wpwrak>
_wo_ im camp-wiki ? :)
<DocScrutinizer05>
k.a.
<DocScrutinizer05>
sucks
<DocScrutinizer05>
what for (where) do you want to use it? I prolly wouldn't worry about using it in talks/slides etc
<DocScrutinizer05>
publishing in web is another story
<wpwrak>
to show where things were. looks much better than a map.
<wpwrak>
so yes, it would be on the web
<DocScrutinizer05>
yep
<DocScrutinizer05>
could you use a YT still snapshot?
<wpwrak>
now, if i had a twitter account, i'd ask for the license ...
<dos1>
wpwrak: already on it :)
<DocScrutinizer05>
if I had one, I'd do it for you ;-)
<wpwrak>
dos1: thanks ! :)
<dos1>
haha, somebody wrote a maze game for rad1o, and its plot is "you are on BER, they close the tent and let you out into thunderstorm. everyone is running and tries to reach the camp" :D
<wpwrak>
;-)
<DocScrutinizer05>
LOL

<wpwrak>
hmm, no aerial picture there. i guess i'll just wait until we hear about the drone shot
<DocScrutinizer05>
and particularly funny (for me, Vizzy, Bine): >>For the day to day refrigerating needs, one or some centralized cooling sources helps saving energy, as well. A coin locker system where each slot can take a six pack of beer will surely do.<<
<DocScrutinizer05>
we already did this, without a friggin cpoin-locker-system. And received quite some flaming for it
<wpwrak>
germans have a well-established reputation for being unreasonable about environmental concerns ;-)
<wpwrak>
flaming ? didn't see any :)
<DocScrutinizer05>
you were not in the right IRC channels to see it ;-)
<wpwrak>
you mean that i chose the right channels to stay away from ? ;-)
<wpwrak>
hmm. is neo900 "commercial" ? imho, *-nc-* is sheer idiocy. and this kind of situation just shows why.
vakkov has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
vakkov has joined #neo900
<DocScrutinizer05>
no, 'commercial' is to sell the photo, I'd say
<DocScrutinizer05>
or place it on our frontpage in a way we'd do with a logo or somesuch
<wpwrak>
"You may not use the material for commercial purposes." is a lot more vague :)
<DocScrutinizer05>
otherwise flickr and twitter would be commercial and any retweets would be too
<DocScrutinizer05>
commercial purposes start where we make money with the picture, one way or another - even by using it in commercials aka advertisements
<wpwrak>
i mean, anything a company does is somehow "for commercial purposes", unless very explicitly no so
<DocScrutinizer05>
yes, that's why I say it starts where the company makes money from the picture
<wpwrak>
yes. PR is advertizing. we write about the camp [also] because it makes us look good, and we expect a commercial return
<DocScrutinizer05>
if we wouldn't make money from the material we wouldn't pay money to use it, and that's where 'commercial' ends
<wpwrak>
that's what it basically boils down to, yes
<dos1>
IOW: CC-NC-* sucks
<wpwrak>
indeed
<wpwrak>
thou shalt not *NC*
<wpwrak>
thou shalt not *ND*
<DocScrutinizer05>
dos1: maybe you could ask the guy for permission to use it in Neo900 context?
<wpwrak>
rms got it incredibly right
<dos1>
CC-BY-SA FTW
<dos1>
DocScrutinizer05: sure
<wpwrak>
CC-BY[-SA] :)
<dos1>
yup :)
<DocScrutinizer05>
otherwise we may host the edited version on my private server and you simply link to it?
<wpwrak>
it doesn't work like that :)
<DocScrutinizer05>
why not? the cccamp itself been clearly non-commercial
<wpwrak>
either we get proper permission or we don't use it. NC is basically an insult, because it means you have to waste time sorting out such things
<DocScrutinizer05>
so is my private server
<DocScrutinizer05>
yep
<DocScrutinizer05>
dos1: please ask him if the village:neo managers may use it on Neo900 site
<DocScrutinizer05>
to report about the camp and the neo village
<DocScrutinizer05>
tim pritlove also is interested in those photos. I wonder how commercial his use case would be
<wpwrak>
neo900 site (for storage) and tmo (for article linking to) :)
<wpwrak>
phew. we should hand this mess to neo900 legal ;-)
<DocScrutinizer05>
we for sure don't need an allowance to link from tmo to some article on neo900.org that might contain a photo
<DocScrutinizer05>
so please don't mention tmo, some people think it's Nokia's property still
<DocScrutinizer05>
and we for sure don't need to place that photo on tmo (actually the forum software doesn't even allow to do that)
<DocScrutinizer05>
all photos on tmo are just embedded and vanish as soon as the original source doesn't exist anymore
<DocScrutinizer05>
which sucks big time
<DocScrutinizer05>
you can attach photos, but then they are attachments
<DocScrutinizer05>
ohmy!!!
<DocScrutinizer05>
>>So another question now - can we put it on @Neo900UG website (which is, in fact, a commercial entity)?<<
<DocScrutinizer05>
is it?
<DocScrutinizer05>
Neo900UG
<DocScrutinizer05>
also for retweeting stuff on whatever twitter page like https://twitter.com/Neo900UG I don't think you need any permission. That's already covered by twitter TOS I'd think. But we actually want to put it on neo900.org/stff/somewhere
<dos1>
DocScrutinizer05: it's not "@Neo900UG website" in literal sense, but rather "Neo900's website, tagged to twitter profile for your convienience" (I think that's well understood convention there, especially with that 140 chars limit)
<DocScrutinizer05>
aah ok
<DocScrutinizer05>
we'll see if and what this guy answers
