okay, getting the gowin software for the gw1n is _super_ annoying
<blackbit>
i guess i'll have to wait for a response to the license application for a few days, due to chinese new years
<blackbit>
i still need their software to load bitstreams into the fpga, right?

blackbit: so you have the software, but not the license?
<blackbit>
correct
<mwk>
a friend told me the license check is not exactly hard to bypass
<blackbit>
they don't mention any terms for license issuing, i just applied for one and wait now
<blackbit>
oh, i didn't take a look yet
<mwk>
like nop out the function with the obvious name
<mwk>
(they have symbols)
<mwk>
it's actually easier to "fix" the check than to run a proper license server (even if you manage to get the license)
<blackbit>
well, i do have r2 installed... not exactly familiar with it though
<blackbit>
i guess i'll dig around a bit

i just gave it a try and it _fu**ing_ worked! took me less than 5 minutes
<blackbit>
i changed the je to jne for shits and giggles and sure enough, it says 'can not connect to license server' and then just starts

"Wireless MMX" still sounds fake to me

scale!

blackbit: so a single well-aimed bitflip, nice :)
<blackbit>
not sure why they would ship such a license validation, but anyways
<blackbit>
so, how's the workflow exactly? do i have to use the floorplanner that comes with their software or can i just use the output of yosys and use their programmer{,_cli}?
<blackbit>
are there any related blogposts or whatever that describe how to use yosys with the gw1n?

mwk: i figure this 'Synplify' thing is the synthesizer that comes with the IDE. did you try to convince this thing to run without license check also?
