<Zorix> what's a decent ice40 dev board these days? something supported by open toolchains
<nats`> official one are good
<nats`> and not that expensive
<nats`> I really appreciate the UP5K one
<nats`> or the HX8K one
<nats`> I would avoid the USB stick one
<TD-Linux> Zorix, icebreaker
<Zorix> pros and cons?
<Zorix> icebreaker looks nice
<nats`> if the ftdi is connected in a fashion you can use the fifo to make USB2 to computer don't hesitate and go for it
<nats`> it's the main problem on their official devboard :D
<Zorix> I do have an ftdi mpsse cable too
<Zorix> worked with xilinx spartan 6 for a bit, but I have some ideas for using really small fpgas in some projects and I figured if I can get one with an open tool chain it would be even more ideal
<nats`> and for those the official tool can't even compete with the opensource tool :D
<nats`> I had to use the official toolsuit few years ago it was a nightmare way worse than xilinx tools :D
<Zorix> that's actually impressive
<Zorix> haha
<Zorix> is there a decent open vhdl ide?
<nats`> working only in verilog and high level language
<nats`> (and I only use a text editor)
<Zorix> seems that most people prefer verilog
<Zorix> ok
<nats`> emacs has a big VHDL mode
<nats`> it is pretty well known
<Zorix> yeah I'm still kind of new to vhdl so I appreciate some syntax checking where I can
<nats`> apparently really powerful
<Zorix> oh
<Zorix> have never used emacs, always used vim
<nats`> I know it's used by a lot of vhdl dev I know
<nats`> so do I
<nats`> recently dropped vim for sublime (what a shame but.... hey :D)
<Zorix> I don't think that one is open
<nats`> anyway I know emacs vhdl is really well known
<nats`> nop it's not sadly
<Zorix> cool thanks
