ChanServ changed the topic of ##yamahasynths to: Channel dedicated to questions and discussion of Yamaha FM Synthesizer internals and corresponding REing. Discussion of synthesis methods similar to the Yamaha line of chips, Sound Blasters + clones, PCM chips like RF5C68, and CD theory of operation are also on-topic. <mrspicy22> So I just took a PCB of the PSR-140, how would your dump the ROM?
<mrspicy22> It's GEW12
<cr1901_modern> Is the ROM chip a DIP or surface mount?
<mrspicy22> It's DIP
<cr1901_modern> You need a programmer/dumper such as the TL866 in order to dump the ROM
<mrspicy22> Okay
<mrspicy22> It's a macronix ROM
<cr1901_modern> part number if you know?
<mrspicy22> I have the service manual up for the PSR-240, which is identical in chipset
<mrspicy22> Wouldn't the dumped ROM just be machine code?
<Lord_Nightmare> would be samples too if there are some
<mrspicy22> Yeah, the wave ROM is on the same chip
<Sarayan> gew-12, cool
<Sarayan> what's the cpu?
<mrspicy22> The GEW12 is the CPU as well
<Sarayan> oh?
<Sarayan> fun
<Lord_Nightmare> combo cpu+synth, like the GEW7
<Sarayan> wonder if it's h8, sh, or something else entirely
<Lord_Nightmare> i'm curious what core it uses
<Sarayan> http://www.dtech.lv/techarticles_yamaha_chips.html have some interesting details
<Sarayan> doubt the guy does cpu RE, so it must be something usual
<mrspicy22> The GEW7 is a CPU as well though
<cr1901_modern> Presumably both GEW7/12 are undumped?
<mrspicy22> Okay
