speaking of retrocomputing is anyone familiar with the toshiba T3100 and friends? i have one but the display is faulty and it seems impossible to get a replacement at reasonable expense. considering buying a complete new unit but mostly for fun, and not sure which variant
<protosphere>
is the d110 mostly equivalent to the mt32 for game music purposes? they tend to go for a lot cheaper so i was thinking of picking one up

welp
<andlabs>
I now have a sealed copy of MS-DOS 3.3 for Epson PC-98 computers
<andlabs>
since it's still got the shrinkwrap on it, just slightly torn
<andlabs>
I bought another one of the laptops I have for the manuals and what not to scan and was not expecting to find them sealed (actually I'm not sure if the manuals are in the original shrinkwrap either but they seem to be)

pentium 3 board owes continue
<andlabs>
I put in the slot 1 CPU and... it thinks the IDE cable (not even what's connected to it, since if I disconnect the other end it still failed) is a floppy drive for some reason
<andlabs>
at least until I finagled it
<andlabs>
so the CPU is still loose in the board
<andlabs>
and memtest86+ still errors out on test #7 block copy
<andlabs>
but linux boots and this time I figured out that the xorg s3 drivers aren't preinstalled :|
<andlabs>
so now I'm not sure but I'm starting to think this motherboard is faulty...
<andlabs>
or I'm just unlucky
<andlabs>
at this point I want to try the biostar board
<andlabs>
unfortunately because I bought the 733Mhz pentium I'll have to use the slotket to test it, but I'll do so another day
<andlabs>
(that board actually has a documented maximum of 500Mhz, meaning I only have one CPU that works with it)
<cr1901_modern>
Wonder if that'll trigger Protection Error

protosphere: Yes, the D-110 is very similar to the MT-32. But don't expect it to be a drop-in replacement.
<ValleyBell>
You'll need to adjust the MIDI data in order to get similar instruments.

I still need to go back and make sure the D-05 actually has all the instruments of all the D-50 family members

andlabs: D-05 should be more or less similar to the D-10, D-20, and D-110. I'd expect some differences from the D-50
<andlabs>
what kinds of differences
<andlabs>
given they threw in all the expansion cards
<andlabs>
also D-05 is not D-5

akacastor: oh, D-05 :)
<balrog>
argh! andlabs
<balrog>
yeah, that's right
<balrog>
it is a different thing.
<balrog>
I wonder if anyone has looked at the v-synth D-50 card btw
<andlabs>
I'm hoping it's effectively identical to the D-05
<andlabs>
because unlike the subscription-based thingy they can't take the hardware away =P
