ChanServ changed the topic of ##yamahasynths to: Channel dedicated to questions and discussion of Yamaha FM Synthesizer internals and corresponding REing. Discussion of synthesis methods similar to the Yamaha line of chips, Sound Blasters + clones, PCM chips like RF5C68, and CD theory of operation are also on-topic. ej5: To be more specific about stealing your ideas... I got a bunch of auto-sensing level shifters for Christmas, plus some 5->3.3V converters. I plan to use one of my ISA protoboards to hook these up to TinyFPGA Ax or Bx (either works) >>

These aren't buses w/ pullups, but I still don't expect this to work
<cr1901_modern>
But I want to try
<cr1901_modern>
When it fails, I'll just use your schematic instead :P
<ej5>
haha sounds like fun
<ej5>
i typically avoid the auto-sensing level shifters because they can create weird oscillations

<cr1901_modern>
indeed, and that's the failure mode I expect
<cr1901_modern>
I'm hoping that b/c there are no pullups involved, oscillations are reduced
<cr1901_modern>
but I can't even really test for this reliably- ENOOSCILLOSCOPE
<cr1901_modern>
(at the moment...)
<cr1901_modern>
And if I somehow succeed, well I'll take the local Murphy's Law violation and run

<andlabs>
well I just connected my IDE SD card adapter to the dimension 2400; it seems to work! and memtest86 says all 512MB RAM still passes after all this time
<andlabs>
it's a 2.20Ghz Pentium 4 which seems way faster than I remember it being lol
<andlabs>
now I just need to remove the old hard drive (to back it up) and the CD drives (which actually ARE broken), clean out the inside, and install a SCSI card
<andlabs>
oh and X11 also works with the intel integrated graphics with the default drivers included with the base slax distribution, at least, but I could just install a beefier linux distribution on a larger hard drive, or even windows xp again for that CD imaging software

're gonna take up reenigne's offer :P?

Glad I was able to connect you two :D

There's a perl script to talk to the server, but I've been spending my weekend project writing a Rust binary to do the same (because it's the hip/trendy thing to RIIR)
<ej5>
waiting for someone to make a rust variant called crust
