Yes, absolutely! You're welcome to come and sit at Typeform offices if you need as well :)
<daviddias>
awesome, thank you :)
<daviddias>
xicombd: was also inviting me (so many IPFS contributors at typeform! :D)
<victorbjelkholm_>
regarding the directory thingy in js-ipfs-api, it was me using the wrong version, but you think it would make sense to add the ability to warn if it's using a incompatible api version?
<victorbjelkholm_>
hah, well, we're two :)
<daviddias>
victorbjelkholm_: Optimally, we would have a way to tell what is compatible and what is not from semver of the API and let a old js-ipfs-api talk with a new go-ipfs and vice versa
<daviddias>
but that requires a lot of syncing between the fast moving go-ipfs
<Kubuxu>
Morning
<daviddias>
(so far, every go-ipfs release broke something on js-ipfs and we had to update)
<daviddias>
that being said, I still think it is very valuable to have a way for the js-ipfs-api to know which version of go-ipfs it was released for
<victorbjelkholm_>
daviddias, so maybe a short term fix would simply be to throw a warning if it's outside a version that we've tested in js-ipfs
<victorbjelkholm_>
yeah, exactly
<daviddias>
and if it detects a different one, tell the user to upgrade either
<daviddias>
yeah, same page :)
<Kubuxu>
daviddias: Today is a football match between Poland and Portugal.
<victorbjelkholm_>
daviddias, all right, I'll close my PR and open an issue for that instead
<Kubuxu>
daviddias: also we broke go-ipfs-api many times too :p
<Kubuxu>
We really need project wide nightly integration tests.
<Kubuxu>
Have you figured out that files issue you had?
<daviddias>
Kubuxu: we will exhaust you by making a very boring game and then score a goal somehow close to the end
<daviddias>
victorbjelkholm_: sweet :)
<Kubuxu>
daviddias: Poland got only one ball in its net since start of the Euro. We will see

I'm very excited to see that there's some momentum involving ipfs-cluster. I'm very eagerly awaiting that and want to test it in my 2 site office setup for getting home folders onto every pc. I've read through the new feature list. What I'm missing though is a mention of some kind of management interface for the cluster admin. How is that supposed to work? And what would also be nice is replication based on age and popularity. Since there's striping,
<xelra>
replication isn't just about data security, but also about speed. So it would make sense to have popular files faster that some old documents that no one ever opens anymore.

That's what I want to do. Yes. I want to replace anything I have from XtreemFS to AndrewFS to glusterFS. I'm hoping ipfs-cluster will be able to do that.

davidak1, i think trying to combine performance with distribution you will have to pick either one and live with the other

<Kubuxu>
then he will use local node

lgierth: hey
<daviddias>
how is it going?
<daviddias>
was pinging you to know the state of biham
<daviddias>
it is full at the moment right?
<daviddias>
I was always using for npm on IPFS
<daviddias>
but now that 0.4.x is the default in all the gateways, I don't even need to spawn a different node, any works
<lgierth>
eeh yeah biham is full
<daviddias>
what you think about that?
<lgierth>
there's not really much to clean up, so any MB in your /home would be appreciated
<lgierth>
eeh not understanding the 0.4.x question :)
<daviddias>
yeah, you can clean all my home
<daviddias>
I mean, before I had a node for the registry-mirror process because the default on our gateway nodes was not 0.4.x (and therefore they didn't had the Files API)
<daviddias>
now since every node is >= 0.4.x, all of them have the files API
<lgierth>
oh. right.
<lgierth>
mh, i think best would be to pin the npm dag on nihal, then remove your ~/.ipfs to free up space on biham

<chriscoreline>
good <time approiprate greeting> anyone got a few seconds to help me firewall up IPFS so i can test in my lab without IT shouting at me?
stoogenmeyer has joined #ipfs
<lgierth>
what are IT's rules?
<chriscoreline>
im concerned about connecting to the global swarm so i would like to test a few hosts in a local swarm as a POC for the moment
<chriscoreline>
given that ipfs swarm filter is blacklist only at this time (according to google anyway) my intention is to use iptables to accept only 4001 between my hosts
<lgierth>
chriscoreline: ah ok, just remove the bootstrap nodes from your config
<lgierth>
ipfs bootstrap rm --all, i think
<Red15[m]>
or use one of your own peers as bootstrap
<chriscoreline>
oh cool! thats a lot easier then... basically anything onvolving iptables, thanks :D
<Red15[m]>
just make sure all your peers do the same bootstrap
<lgierth>
note that once *one* of your nodes is connected to any non-lab nodes, it'll tell the other lab nodes about these and they'll probably connect to
<chriscoreline>
ok thats clear, all local or all global :)
<lgierth>
also note that IPNS has problems in networks with <20 nodes, iirc (cc whyrusleeping)
<lgierth>
but ipfs itself is fine

<chriscoreline>
thanks for the headsup, and the help in general :)
<Red15[m]>
i just found out about IPFS today and was learning ceph earlier, now I'm being curious about combining both :)
<lgierth>
sure, you're welcome
<whyrusleeping>
ipns will work with just one other node
<whyrusleeping>
i'm pretty sure
<Red15[m]>
can it BE anymore distributed ? :P
<whyrusleeping>
Red15[m]: i like ceph, some pretty cool stuff there

so the bootstrap entries on both hosts are identical, each has itself and its peer listed, but i keep getting connection refused

or 'failure: dial backoff'
