Also; is there anything I can do for you to make it easier to use http-api-spec on the clientbase?

I remember we talked about this the other day with jdag, but I don't recall if there were any actionable items for me.

daviddias: Not sure that the options code is working for the js-ipfs api
<daviddias>
ahah no, was just making my lunch, here again
<daviddias>
it is important that http-api-spec on Apiary works
<daviddias>
that is possible to use Apiary
<daviddias>
that was the Action Item from that discussion with jdag
<richardlitt>
Thought so. Didn't think there was anything else?
<richardlitt>
Trying to go through and achieve doc parity with go-ipfs for jsipfs
<richardlitt>
How do you want me to do this? I could open an issue, for each command, and compare them side by side, and then PR?
<richardlitt>
A lot of the go-ipfs docs don't apply.
<daviddias>
PR per command sounds good, thank you :)
<daviddias>
on http-api-spec, getting APIARY to do its job will reveal problems with the spec or with the impl
<richardlitt>
Ok. One tracking issue, I suppose.
<richardlitt>
Apiary does it's job, so I'm not entirely sure what you mean?
<richardlitt>
cli parity is a different topic, too. I'm not going through and doing http call parity, too, am I/
ruby32 has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<richardlitt>
I thought I was purely doing a documentation parity round. More along the lines of standardizing how we talk about the IPFS commands.
jsrockss has quit [Ping timeout: 250 seconds]
<daviddias>
can we call a go-ipfs daemon from Apiary?
<richardlitt>
Ahhh. No, currently it is simply a specification.
<richardlitt>
Hmm. Had I known we were planning on doing that, I might have saved a lot of time. I did everything manually coming from the point of view that automatically getting results from the API was something we weren't going to be able to do.
<daviddias>
a) cli parity - Document which commands do not work (regarding options, if they respect stdin, etc)
<daviddias>
b) http-api-spec parity - We have parity for pretty much anything that is merged because we test it with js-ipfs-api API, don't worry about that
<richardlitt>
a) Cool. Will do an issue per group, then (aka: jsipfs `bitswap` and it's subsidiaries), and hopefully manage to PR.
<richardlitt>
b) Ok. Will not worry about, for now.
<daviddias>
c) APIARY - one of the reasons why we picked Apiary, was so that we could have the live HTTP-API. I believe that there is no technical reason why it should not work, but in case we decided not too, better update the README, because that changes the idea of having a LIVE API
computerfreak has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<richardlitt>
c) That's not my memory of why we chose Apiary. I just looked again - it was chosen because it was a good description language, not for the live aspect.
<richardlitt>
By "Live" in the Readme, I mean you can go look at it with fancy UI on the apiary website - not that you can run actual tests against it. For that, I just opened this issue: https://github.com/ipfs/http-api-spec/issues/103
<richardlitt>
Might be good to explain that in the Readme, as it seems it is confusing.
<richardlitt>
d) I need help installing and running jsipfs.
<daviddias>
richardlitt: looks like an issue with your node.js/npm installation
<daviddias>
works here
<richardlitt>
will update that, might be old or something
<richardlitt>

hi
<Lapinot>
I just stumbled over swirlds.com. It's a startup that has a new consensus algorithm (swirld) which is quite interesting (whitepaper is available, no code yet). It could for example replace the blockchain software stack which has serious design flaws. Do some of you know/have remarks about that?
<Lapinot>
I plan to do some prototyping around that algorithm this summer (maybe in python and then in elixir or ocaml)
<Lapinot>
(this algorithm solves the byzantine agreement problem strongly: you know when agreement is achieved, agreement doesn't depend on some node being the leader and taking decisions for some time and some other things)

======== IRC Sprint =========
<richardlitt>
Hello everyone. This is now officially IRC Monday Sprint Sync time.
<richardlitt>
Basically, we're going to go through and talk about what we've done this past week, and what we're blocked on, and what we will do.
<richardlitt>
Short interjection: juan thinks it is OK to have a short one
<richardlitt>
Kubuxu: Do you mind if we have a short video? I think it makes more sense than going through the whole long sprint with half of the team (no lars, samuli, friedel, or j today)
<Kubuxu>
Ok, lets go with that
<richardlitt>
whyrusleeping: daviddias that OK/
<daviddias>
short video is good for me as well
<whyrusleeping>
short WFM
<richardlitt>
OK.
<richardlitt>
everyone: please disregard what I said above. We will instead be having a video hangout, in roughly five minutes
<richardlitt>
I will share the link here, and update the calendar accordingly
cow_2001 has quit [Quit: cow_2001]
<richardlitt>
Note: This will be a short sprint, so there will be no longer video sessions for go-ipfs, js-ipfs, libp2p, webapps (including station and orbit), or infrastructure. However! If you would like to mention ANY of these things, please join in and either ask a question here, or join the video hangouts.
<richardlitt>

<kevina>
but I will figure something out, thanks
<whyrusleeping>
mmm, if you wanted to simulate writing that many keys. The easiest way would be to set up two daemons on your local machine (without bootstrapping)
<whyrusleeping>
connect them to eachother, and then add a bunch of stuff on one

whyrusleeping: did you time getAllProvKeys()? That is where the slowdown will be. In fact writing might be faster than reading them back. :(
<whyrusleeping>
kevina: yeah, i was timing getAllProvKeys

Just upgraded and installed ipfs on a local machine (OSX). ipfs version 0.4.2 having an issue with large files - get ERROR commands/h: open ~/.ipfs/blocks/12206ca6/put-432486673: too many open files
<fortyfoxes[m]>
Any ideas?
<kevina>
whyrusleeping: okay, I just reread your message, sorry.
<whyrusleeping>
fortyfoxes[m]: try running the daemon with --manage-fdlimit
<whyrusleeping>
its an experimental feature in 0.4.1 and 0.4.2, but its going to be enabled by default in 0.4.3
<fortyfoxes[m]>
OK that works
<fortyfoxes[m]>
Thanks. You got a link to checkout the demos you showed at Decentrlized web Summit - the chat client and streaming video with Javascritp player?

If I were to create a directory with `ipfs files mkdir /logs` and add some files to this directory, what would be the easiest way of recursively _cat_ing all the files in the /logs directory? Something along the lines of `ipfs files cat /logs/*`.
