hello. can i change ipfs root outside /home? or does "cannot add filestore references outside ipfs root" mean something is wrong in ipfs itself? Enabled filestore, did ipfs init and ipfs daemon. then tried to add new file and it showed after 20%

Can I use ipfs for making personal backups?
<deltab>
hi
<deltab>
yes you can, though to keep them private you'll want to encrypt them first or at least use the private network mode
<deltab>
by default the things you add are announced to the world, so that others can find them
<deltab>
aiui some of the developers use ipfs for personal backups

Guest4265: No, the Private mode means all traffic is encrypted with a pre-shared key. You cannot choose which public nodes you want to connect to - the node has to set up with the same pre-shared key.
<Mateon1>
That means, any private network is completely separate from the main public IPFS network
<Mateon1>
Also, traffic is encrypted between peers even without private networks
<chungy>
That's cool
<chungy>
It might be easier to just do a normal encrypted backup (eg: tar, then gpg, then ipfs add)... but you need to have at least one other computer fetching/pinning the data to make use of it after a disaster :P
