so I ran `npm install -g` on js-ipfs without reading the instructions and it didn't install the command
<dunnousernamefn>
oh, maybe it's --global and not -g
<dunnousernamefn>
oh wait I'm a total idiot
<dunnousernamefn>
I wonder how many people accidentally uploaded their private keys
<dunnousernamefn>
So, is there a more portable version of IPFS, language-wise, e.g. C89, for integration in applications
<dunnousernamefn>
because (no offense) Go sucks (I think) and Node.js is as far as possible from the host out of any "real" programming language
<kaotisk>
What is a good practice in order to add files to your IPFS repository and keep track of the files added? Sometimes I feel like I have to make my database for filenames and hashes. How can I get access to my repo and see all my files by name or something?

dunnousernamefn: what languages do you consider "more portable" besides C89?
<fiatjaf>
kaotisk, the best solution nowadays is to use mfs
<dunnousernamefn>
anything I can correctly find in the package manager without installing 3 different PPAs
<fiatjaf>
kaotisk, after adding a file/folder and getting its hash, do `ipfs files cp /ipfs/<hash> /a-nice-name-for-my-file-or-folder`
<fiatjaf>
kaotisk, later you can get its hash again using `ipfs files stat /a-nice-name-for-my-file-or-folder`
<dunnousernamefn>
I guess... I guess that's a good point
<fiatjaf>
kaotisk, but I also suffer for your problem of having trouble to keep track of stuff -- although the discovery of mfs made my life much better
<fiatjaf>
dunnousernamefn, you should get the compiled version and put it in your PATH

we just successfully did the first LIVE STREAM over IPFS for the conference \o/

we had to remove the IPNS component because it was unpredictable even with pubsub turned on. But that was just >700 bytes of data that was not IP[FN]Sed
<abueide>
hah thats cool
<abueide>
right now i'm trying to build a decentralized reddit via pubsub
TUSF has joined #ipfs
<abueide>
and ipfs ofc
<abueide>
well it will be kinda like if you built reddit on top of IRC where everyone has their own "version" of the community and can add/delete moderators for themselves personally
<abueide>
if a mod makes a mod action if that mod isn't a mod on your personal version of the community your client will ignore it
<abueide>
and you'll be able to add recruiters who will gain the right to add members to your personal community file
<TUSF>
So how was the livestream done, exactly? Was it like hls, updating a playlist file regularly over IPNS (or something?)
<TUSF>
abueide: I actually posted something similar a couple days ago.
<abueide>
really? can I see

TUSF, you seem to have a different idea than I do of how it will work
<abueide>
at the base layer there is no censorship by anybody
<abueide>
every user can choose to embrace the chaos
<abueide>
they only add moderators for their own personal client for the sake of filtering out stuff they don't personally want, not to comply with laws and regulation
<abueide>
and if a moderator starts doing stuff they don't like they can just remove that mod and have all their actions undone
<abueide>
and they'll be able to look through the moderation logs of each mod and see the filtered content
<TUSF>
My system can't really enforce moderation anyways. It's pretty much just a blacklist the client listens to, but it'd be pretty trivial to look at what's been filtered.

Kinda an odd idea. You normally don't tell hotel guests to hire a janitor, haha. But who knows?
<TUSF>
From what I've seen, most people actually DO want to avoid certain "types" of content.
<abueide>
well it should be fine because it would be a platform for building content curation communities where it is whitelist by default
<abueide>
the founder will decide the initial structure and people can modify it to their preferences
<abueide>
and their will probably be anti-spam bots that people will add to their community instance
<abueide>
anyways good night
