<chewitt> narmstrong jbrunet seeing this warning splat on GX devices with 5.9.0 .. so far GXBB and GXM (didn't try GXL yet)
* jbrunet has not seen that yet
<jbrunet> If you can bisect it to pin point the breaking commit, it would be ideal
<jbrunet> I find strange that snd_soc_component_write() (which is regmap backed) would call mutex_lock(). memory mapped regmap should default to spinlock based protection.
<jbrunet> soc_pcm_trigger() is considered atomic ... mutex_lock() is not correct in that context
<jbrunet> Please let me know if you manage to bisect this

<chewitt> I will struggle to bisect due to the quantity of backports and wip patches in my branches
<narmstrong> Regmap uses mutex unless fast_io is specified
<chewitt> and I skipped 5.8 due high levels of day-job work
<chewitt> so previous working test image was 5.7.8
<chewitt> this is my current 5.9 branch https://github.com/chewitt/linux/commits/amlogic-5.9-integ
<chewitt> audio works (with basic testing) .. I can play thing in Kodi
<chewitt> jbrunet there's also a glitch in aiu that results in loud 'machine gun noise' that's fairly easy to trigger with kodi
<jbrunet> narmstrong: fast_io is (or used to be) the default for memory mapped register AFAIK
<chewitt> at least, i'm fairly confident it's in aiu, as I haven't ever seen the same with g12 devices (different driver)
<chewitt> if I navigate in Kodi settings and start changing the audio input (analogue, hdmi, etc.) it will trigger fairly quickly
<chewitt> with my level of code knowledge I have no idea how to debug tho
<chewitt> it's also present with/without the hacky multi-channel stuff in my kernel branch .. so it's not that causing the problem
<jbrunet> This is known and I have been clear about it initially. This is very low on priority list ATM. So if this become a problem and no one can contribute on this, I'll probably end-up su
<jbrunet> submitting a change to restrict to 2ch playback
<chewitt> I've not seen reports of it from other distros that borrow my patch sets, so I wouldn't be too hasty about that
<chewitt> other distros are mostly 'desktop' oriented where 2ch output is normal tho
<chewitt> so Kodi might be poking things that others don't touch
