If you can bisect it to pin point the breaking commit, it would be ideal
<jbrunet>
I find strange that snd_soc_component_write() (which is regmap backed) would call mutex_lock(). memory mapped regmap should default to spinlock based protection.
<jbrunet>
soc_pcm_trigger() is considered atomic ... mutex_lock() is not correct in that context
<jbrunet>
Please let me know if you manage to bisect this

I will struggle to bisect due to the quantity of backports and wip patches in my branches
<narmstrong>
Regmap uses mutex unless fast_io is specified

and I skipped 5.8 due high levels of day-job work
<chewitt>
so previous working test image was 5.7.8

This is known and I have been clear about it initially. This is very low on priority list ATM. So if this become a problem and no one can contribute on this, I'll probably end-up su

submitting a change to restrict to 2ch playback
<chewitt>
I've not seen reports of it from other distros that borrow my patch sets, so I wouldn't be too hasty about that
<chewitt>
other distros are mostly 'desktop' oriented where 2ch output is normal tho
<chewitt>
so Kodi might be poking things that others don't touch
