<bobby_> my A10-OLinuXino-LIME rev. C is not stable at 1008MHz@1.4 V using libjpeg-turbo test, mainline kernel 4.0.0-rc4 and u-boot 2015.01, so I tried ssvb and wens suggestions
VargaD has quit [Quit: ZNC - http://znc.in]
Andy-D has joined #linux-sunxi
<bobby_> I added 960 MHz@1.4 V in sun4i.dtsi and compiled a new dtb - it works and it is stable
<bobby_> 912MHz@1.35V is also stable
<bobby_> then I changed dcdc2 voltage in u-boot to 1.45V
<bobby_> 1008MHz@1.45V is stable, 1056MHz@1.45V is not
<bobby_> btw, how many times should I run cpufreq-ljt-stress-test with result PASSED to conclude that CPU is stable?
<ssvb> bobby_: nobody knows :-)
<ssvb> in fact, I would prefer to have some safety headroom instead of running the test for X, Y or Z hours and concluding that everything is alright
<bobby_> ssvb: because even at 1008MHz@1.4V I had series of 21 successful tests until it failed on the 22nd, .. and then on 25... 28 etc
<ssvb> yes, exactly
<ssvb> we also can't be sure that libjpeg-turbo is the most stressing test (there might be some other real workload, which is more likely to fail with improper CPU voltage), and some A10-OLinuXino-LIME boards may be more picky than the others
<ssvb> bobby_: my A10-OLinuXino-LIME rev. A fails the test with 1008MHz @1.425V after running it long enough
<ssvb> bobby_: the 'cyan' line is my experimantal data from a10-lime, the 'blue' line reflects the allwinner's default cpufreq settings - http://people.freedesktop.org/~siamashka/files/20140512/sunxi-cpufreq-plot.png
Black_Horseman has quit [Ping timeout: 252 seconds]
<bobby_> ssvb: my results are exactly as sun4i_poorlime, at least for 912, 960, 1008 MHz
<ssvb> in a geometrical sense, we want to increase the cpufreq voltages, so that the 'blue' line gets placed above the 'cyan' and there is at least 0.025V gap between them to have some safety headroom
<ssvb> bobby_: have you seen the patches from wens in the mailing list?
<bobby_> even at "stock" voltages A10 seems to be hotter than A20, I will not risk running cpuburn-a8 on it :)

<arie> hi
<arie> I have a question about the hardware video decoding of the A20
<arie> I'm using mpv+libvdpau-sunxi to play videos with hardware decoding
<arie> this works, but my high bitrate videos (~28Mbps) are played too slowly
<arie> even though I read that the maximum bitrate should be 40 or 50 Mbps
<arie> is there anything I can try to fix this?
<ssvb> arie: do you have a sample of such video?
<ssvb> it would help to reference it at http://linux-sunxi.org/CedarX/VideoRenderingChart
<arie> ssvb: they are quite large
<arie> can I cut it using dd?
<arie> or will that break the format?
<ssvb> don't know, I believe that there are tools for splitting video files
<ssvb> also have you checked if this video can be played correctly in Android?
<arie> no, I don't have an android installation currently
<arie> thanks, I'll prepare a small sample file
<plaes> which library is libvdpau-sunxi using?
<plaes> allwinners or the reverse-engineered one?
* plaes found the answer in wiki :P
<ssvb> :-)

<sillysnowflake> does uboot display anything on the screen? i have it installed on my sd card and tried booting that without any linux installed anywhere, but nothing shows up
<bonbons> sillysnowflake: depends on uboot version, older ones only know serial console
<sillysnowflake> i got the one from the git repo just a few days ago

<jero> talking about uboot, are there framebuffer drivers for the sun4i in uboot ?
<RSpliet> jero: maybe not the best help, but I verified it working for sun7i... I reckon the display component hardly differs between the various SoCs so good chance of it either working or being easy to get working
