<Ke> KotCzarny: can you pinpoint the thing that is unreasonable in your opinion?
<Ke> imo poettering was unusually reasonable there for himself
<KotCzarny> starting things as root for users not assigned 0 uid and without any suid?
<KotCzarny> looks not very sane
<Ke> yes, but as he responded, it's their policy
<Ke> I don't agree with that either, but it is consistent
<KotCzarny> policy being security broken?
<Ke> it's a policy
<pmpp> not it's just bad input validation
<Ke> I think the bigger problem is, that most distros are so broken that users can't reasonably audit the logs
<pmpp> and should have been corrected instantly with "thank you for reporting"
<pmpp> but it's turning into a youtube thread comment
<KotCzarny> having a policy of being broken doesnt look sane/safe. it looks psycho for me
<Ke> pmpp: if you read the the report, poettering claims that input is being validated and an error is being logged
<pmpp> still program is started
<Ke> yes, but it's not about input validation then, it's a choice based on a policy
<pmpp> when validation fails it should shut down service
<pmpp> it's all about input validation unless you start checksumming and signing config files
<pmpp> which should have been implemented first
<pmpp> never trust user input is primary rule
<Ke> yes, but users should audit logs
<Ke> I audit logs
<pmpp> with grep and cat good luck
<Ke> pmpp: journal has priority levels
<Ke> it even colours the bad stuff for you
<pmpp> there are good things in systemd but deployment seems like a mess to me
<Ke> sadly, as I said, distros are so broken that there is bad stuff all around
<pmpp> really i don't care about distro i still can write /linuxrc myself
<Ke> well fixing a distro might be easier to do than rewriting everything yourseld
<pmpp> that's wrong just try to build some X-terminal env from a distro base, like LTSP tried to do and you'll understand that
<pmpp> distro are targeting user's desktop more and more , just where gnu/linux is not the best at
<Ke> nah, I have anough cvstom stuff already
matthias_bgg has joined #linux-sunxi
<KotCzarny> shouldn't tech serve users, not users the tech?
<Ke> at some point we'll get there
<KotCzarny> i wonder when efi will require systemd to boot
<Ke> most of my maintenance is for maintenace, like backups configuration management etc
<pmpp> KotCzarny: right, look at Os X to darwin, like google is doing to android , systemd will do to gnu/linux
<pmpp> KotCzarny: don't forget TPM in the couple efi-systemd, kernel will just end as some file loader and input buffer
BenG83 has quit [Quit: Leaving]
<Ke> pmpp: but then it boils back down to owner control of the hw, which most people want anyway
apritzel has quit [Ping timeout: 276 seconds]
<KotCzarny> yes, but for user, not some random kids on the internet
<KotCzarny> or nsa
<pmpp> Ke: to me it's more like the kid want to be the new Linus and some grown ups are using that to make a landing
Gerwin_J has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
Gerwin_J has joined #linux-sunxi
<Ke> perhaps, right now I can't pinpoint anymore why I want to control my own hw
<Ke> still u-boot runs on arm64 without EFI, so I wouldn't worry about systemd-lockdown before we lost the owner control
<Ke> well most devices are not owner controlled anymore, but some are
<pmpp> because interoperability beetween pc components added competition and quality to the market ?
<KotCzarny> ahahahaha 09:45 #linux-sunxi Ke > well most devices are not owner controlled anymore, but some are
<KotCzarny> beautiful
<Ke> ?
leviathan_ has joined #linux-sunxi
<pmpp> pc design was crap, but anyone can find his way out with it, like a two-stroke engine or marine diesel
<pmpp> KISS
<Ke> well to me it does not matter so much, what runs on the boot, just what is guaranteed to be running after the boot
<Ke> if you can trust you can limit what's running after the boot, it's fine by me
<KotCzarny> ke: you know that's not what linux-sunxi was converged for? ie. freeing that hw from all possible blobs?
<pmpp> Ke: to me, it's all about hooking video decoder with a straight line to the outside bypassing *all* software, and then will come executable
<Ke> KotCzarny: I can't know other persons' motives, only that they sometimes produce something I want
<pmpp> AAA games now require internet to run
<pmpp> and people (not me) accept that
<Ke> pmpp: afaik arm does not force you to have that, unless you have secure boot
<Ke> Intel and AMD certainly yes
<Ke> some ARM implementations perhaps
<mripard> may I suggest you to create #anti-systemd-and-the-rest-of-the-world, and go there ?
<Ke> I'm not anti-systemd, but I can perhaps try to proceed with getting some work done =o)
<mripard> I'm sure you'll find a lot of people to debate with there
<mripard> while remaining on topic
<MoeIcenowy> There's no one to prevent you from implementing a totally restricted boot Allwinner board now ;-)
<pmpp> sure, what about otg support on 4.12 ?
<MoeIcenowy> pmpp: H3?
<pmpp> yeah
<MoeIcenowy> Only a few boards have the necessary DT bits merged in 4.12
<MoeIcenowy> for some boards you may need some backporting from 4.13
<MoeIcenowy> I think I only did it on Orange Pi One and PC2 in 4.12, which is the boards that I have when I'm developing the OTG patchset
<pmpp> otg is a key component for FEL installers and legacy is buggy as hell and incomplete on that
<MoeIcenowy> wens did OPi PC, Plus 2E and BPi M2+ in 4.13
<pmpp> ho i could test that
<MoeIcenowy> and I think H5 boards added by me in 4.13 all have OTG enabled
<pmpp> yeah but fel boot still broken so can't test
<MoeIcenowy> for FEL boot you may need some ugly hacks in U-Boot
<pmpp> too low level for me, i am userspace
<pmpp> i don't even know how to start to rebuild cedarX with good frame number for low meme devices

<MoeIcenowy> oh shitty design which wastes a lot of functions
<MoeIcenowy> the most significant advantage of H3 is multiple USB controller
<MoeIcenowy> then GbE
<MoeIcenowy> but using a Zero W design lost these two advantages easily

<tkaiser> Their BPi M2 Berry will be soon sold in Germany as 'RPi 3 killer' claiming full compatibility to Raspberries :)
<BenG83> Reichelt already has it :(
<MoeIcenowy> with a kernel severely older than RPi ;-)
<KotCzarny> who cares, it's a lot more hot, much more useful for those winter times
<tkaiser> MoeIcenowy: Kernel? What's that? We have Raspbian!
<MoeIcenowy> ;-)
<MoeIcenowy> tkaiser: if a /etc/machine-id is missing, will systemd create it at the first boot?
<tkaiser> MoeIcenowy: No idea, I'm not that much into systemd.

<Net147> oliv3r: with the correct muxing "devmem2 0x01c16010 w 0xc0000020" will show a colorbar pattern on the HDMI output, "devmem2 0x01c16010 w 0xc0000000" to switch back to RGB input

<Net147> oliv3r: last time I tried to make both LCD and HDMI show the same thing the image went crazy on both
<oliv3r> Net147: i'm trying to get 'just' the display to work
<oliv3r> i have a lime2 with the 4.3 LCD panel
<oliv3r> and I think i added all the appropiate nodes; but alas, nothing yet
<Net147> oliv3r: that should be simple enough. I can get either 4.3" LCD or HDMI, but not both.
<oliv3r> i am working on maxime's for-drm tree and added plaes patches for the new clocks
<oliv3r> but for some reason, i end up with : [ 176.791035] [drm:sun4i_drv_probe [sun4i_drm]] Queued 0 outputs on pipeline 0
<Net147> oliv3r: https://github.com/net147/linux/commits/sun7i-a20-olinuxino-lime-drm-wip-ccu without the last 2 commits to switch to using HDMI should work, though you would need to adapt from lime to lime2
<oliv3r> Net147: that sounds easy enough
<oliv3r> ok i'll go over that to see
<Net147> oliv3r: the muxing is only to try to get dual display working
<oliv3r> yeah
chlorine has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
<oliv3r> do we know what the 'unknown mux' does at all?
<oliv3r> since it is so very well documented
<wens> mripard previously said you cannot enable both channel 0 and 1 on the same tcon
<wens> oliv3r: it seems a10s has a mux selection which block the channel 1 output goes to, hdmi or tv encoder
<oliv3r> is this register atleast documented on the a10s?
<mripard> oliv3r: why do you think we called it "unknown"?
<oliv3r> mripard: to trick people into trying to figure it out :D
<oliv3r> so i should have rephrased myself; has anybody figured out more about it yet :)
<oliv3r> well I suppose we know a little bit about it; its just not written down anywhere yet

<Net147> oliv3r: TCON_set_tv_src function, line 1228
<oliv3r> Net147: i saw that, so i suppose the shift is 8 for hdmi, 4 for the tv and 0 for the rgb
<Net147> oliv3r: A20 9:8 hdmi_src, 5:4 tv0_src, 1:0 tv1_src
<wens> for rgb?
<wens> there is no shift for rgb
<wens> rgb (lcd panel) is tied to whatever tcon you connect it to
<wens> and you can forget about RGB from tv encoders for now
<wens> it's not supported yet
<Net147> I guess it is just making sure the inputs don't conflict...

<Putti> Does anyone have one of the Sunvell R69 TV media boxes with H2 Allwinner SoC? I really don't see any repositories with H2 support. Everything is H2+ or H3, but as far as I understood they should be really similar. So it would be nice to try to port linux and u-boot for this board, but I'm just wondering if it has UART.
<BenG83> regulator-boot-on
<BenG83> oh sorry
