<bauen1> Hi, i was wondering if anyone got signed boot to work on an H5 (https://forum.armbian.com/topic/3033-h3-soc-boot-rom-security-e-fuse/), i don't have one yet and have only been looking at what is probably a dump of the BROM to figure out if it actually supports this
<bauen1> according to the manual it should support some form of it

<bauen1> if someone could send me a dump of the N-BROM and S-BROM (first 64kb) or any documentation about the R_CPUCFG memory area that would be very nice
<bauen1> nvm i found a dump of both in this channel

<asdf28> has anyone had any luck getting the mali drivers to work with a newer kernel?
<lurchi_> For newer kernels, you probably should just use lima
<asdf28> isn't that still terribly slow?
<asdf28> i'm not up to date
<asdf28> the only combination of mali drivers that worked were the ones that come with the LibreELEC project
<asdf28> but they were terribly slow on my mali 400 board, something wasn't working properly
matthias_bgg has joined #linux-sunxi
<asdf28> has anyone gotten this to work with a current kernel? https://bootlin.com/blog/mali-opengl-support-on-allwinner-platforms-with-mainline-linux/
<asdf28> the drivers did compile on a 5.x mainline kernel but applications would not start, "segmentation fault"
<asdf28> if it worked for anyone, i would be very interesting in your kernel version and the applications that worked with it
<chewitt> LE has been using lima/panfrost in dev builds for a while, and I didn't hear complaints in a long time
lurchi_ is now known as lurchi__
<chewitt> so if you're using mainline-ish kernel, I wouldn't bother with mali blobs

<asdf28> what would be the lima equivalent of the mali fbdev blob?
<asdf28> oh, it's the mesa library
<asdf28> thanks, i have not tried this before
ldevulder_ has joined #linux-sunxi
<asdf28> let's see if i can get it to work

<chewitt> it *should* just work
<chewitt> (famous last words)
<asdf28> and with the mesa GL userspace driver, you do not have to choose a variant like with mali before?
<asdf28> fbdev/x11 and so on
tnovotny has quit [Quit: Leaving]
<asdf28> but now that you mention it, i had tried LibreELEC before and it worked very well, i just didn't know it was using lima
<asdf28> i thought it would still be using libmali insteas
<asdf28> instead

<chewitt> depends how far back you tested things
<chewitt> I'd guesstimate the last 12-months we've used lima/panfrost almost-everywhere
<chewitt> now that panfrost has bifrost support, there's no reason for anything to use blobs
<rellla> asdf28: forget mali, just use lima instead :)

<asdf28> yes, it worked with lima. awesome!
<asdf28> but performance is still terrible. however, i noticed that CPU load is unusually high
<asdf28> might just be another issue

<asdf28> "cpus/cpu0 missing clock-frequency property"
<asdf28> in any case, thanks for suggesting me to use lima. i was not aware that it is very much usable now
<rellla> asdf28: what is your usecase?
<asdf28> i am trying to install lakka on my banana pi
<asdf28> to play retro games
<asdf28> and the only configuration that ever worked was with the old 3.4-sunxi kernel and the old mali drivers
<asdf28> everything else was very slow

<chewitt> I'm not sure what kernel bits ntemis was using with lakka, but you can probably steal things from LE easily
<chewitt> perhaps see if the LE test images on https://test.libreelec.tv boot/run the board okay as a starting point
<chewitt> as a general rule lakka lags a bit behind the LE codebase
<asdf28> the current lakka version does not boot at all on my board
<asdf28> but libreelec does
<asdf28> so i just tried to copy the lakka packages to that libreelec version
<asdf28> it
<asdf28> it's a mess but it works
Putti has quit [Ping timeout: 272 seconds]
<asdf28> i began this because i got excited when libreelec added support for the Allwinner A20 chip
<chewitt> lakka suffers from a bit too much "itworksitis" .. meaning once something works it remains untouched for ages
<asdf28> and indeed it's the only distro with a mainline kernel that has everything working
<chewitt> and the dev team these days is super small
<chewitt> and the desire to support every device possible means a major workload
<asdf28> it's still amazing for what it is
<chewitt> over time the codebase isn't rebased against LE often, which means a superhuman effort is needed to do it
<asdf28> yes i noticed there were a lot of differences that made it hard to just exchange packages between the two
<chewitt> lakka needs to reduce the no. supported devices and rebase "little but often"
<chewitt> but these days the devs are counted on one hand and that's a big ask
<chewitt> the main dev prefers batocera
