<hramrach>
you can run openwrt but what quality of WiFi you get is determined by the hardware

there is not much difference between an Orange Pi and your off-the-shelf AP but the WiFi might be one of the differences
<hramrach>
and it varies wildly between differnt models of orange Pi, too

I think you better ask what WiFi works well with openwrt and then see if any of the Orange Pi or similar boards has it

like I said, ~none of the SBCs have "router class" wifi chipsets, because they're not targettting that.
<karlp>
you can definitely run an AP, it will be fine for offering a little web ui for some app you have on ryou board.
<mps>
I hope it will not be worse than old linksys wrt54g which I have now as AP
<karlp>
what' sthe actual goal here?
<mps>
karlp: you ask me?
<hramrach>
well, wrt54g was designed as AP
<damex>
people could always get some board with pci-e and plug in some decent wireless card that could be used as an ap
<damex>
sadly h6 have broken pci-e (is there a workaround present yet?)
<mru>
"decent pcie wifi card" is very much not equal to "horrible realtek usb"
<damex>
that's for sure
<damex>
i think it could be something like Compex WLE600VX or maybe WLE900VX
<karlp>
mps: yes. if you're goal is a wireless openwrt support platform, to use primarily as an access point, ~none of the sunxi dev boards are a good fit out of the box IMO.
<mps>
karlp: ok, thanks for info and advice

if you're goal is ann access point, and you might want to "do stuff" just get a regular supported platform with a usb port, and attach what you want there.

is there actually any supported (upstream) sunxi board that have pcie (working) ?

Hello, I'm trying to binwalk a F1C200s 8MB flash dump but with no luck...I would like to change something in the rootfs and I'm too lazy to search the correct offset and format..this is just a toy project for a speedometer I bought from Ali https://mega.nz/fm/VwQl0IjR
<c10ud^>
maybe my msys2 binwalk is broken, idk... but maybe the offset/fmt is somehow standard in this device... I'm trying to get it but no luck so far
<megi>
It may not run Linux, and may not have rootfs
<c10ud^>
it does, I think I found the magic part symbol by hand..however I see it may be more complicated than it seems, the partitioning seems somehow weird
