<gediz0x539> there are really interesting SoCs out there
<gediz0x539> i did not know about T7 before
<gediz0x539> downloaded its documents but theres no dedicated page for it on the wiki

<bauen1> gediz539: if i'm understanding this correctly you (your company) has bought a membership that allows access to orignal allwinner docs ?
<bauen1> interesting
<matteo_> hello. I am working on support for an S3 based board that we designed, and there is no S3-specific dtsi in the kernel.
<matteo_> since the soc is so similar to the V3s, would it make sense to have a new sun8i-s3.dtsi which at the moment just contains an include of sun8i-v3s.dtsi?
<matteo_> that way when in the future somebody bumps into a difference, they can just override the v3s definition with the S3 one?
<matteo_> (at the moment I don't even know for sure what those differences would be)

camus1 is now known as kaspter
<matteo_> or should there be a "sun8i-v3s-s3.dtsi" and then both sun8i-v3s.dtsi and sun8i-s3.dtsi would import from it?
tnovotny has joined #linux-sunxi
<matteo_> the second solution seems cleaner, in an ideal world, but I guess it would make it harder to upstream the changes to mainline, given that it's a bigger change?
<matteo_> (that also involves an already functional and supported soc)
<gediz539> bauen1: swiftgeek is right
<gediz539> nothing related to allwinner
<gediz539> i've tried it myself and could not buy a VIP membership through wechat, it just did not accept any of my credit cards.
<swiftgeek> yeah it's a pita, one thing is wechat moneys activation, and other is using 3rd party services to top up the wallet
<clementp[m]> matteo_: ask to Allwinner Maintainer by Mail or ping them on this IRC mripard for Maxime and wens for Chen-Yu
<clementp[m]> sun8i-v3s-s3.dtsi will folow what has been done for h3-h5 but I don't know if it's the correct way to do it

<karlp> I'd suggest to leave it the same until you actually have differences :)
<gediz539> I could not find a proper page to share these, open for suggestions:
bauen1 has joined #linux-sunxi
<wens> karlp: +1
<diego71> gediz539: you can start from creating a page for T7
<diego71> and then adding a link there
<gediz539> I do not have any additional information other than these two files
<gediz539> would it still be OK?
<swiftgeek> i wonder what makes it automotive, it doesn't even have CAN bus support xD
<gediz539> swiftgeek: EVE: Integrated Embedded Visual Engine(EVE) can detect vehicle, lane, pedestrian, traffic sign, and traffic signals.
<gediz539> Detection speed is up to 30fps for VGA images.
<gediz539> Reliability: Pass the AEC-Q100 Grade3 Certification test.
<swiftgeek> then i guess it's the expectation now that cars have ethernet
<diego71> gediz539: if you search in internet you can find some brief description
<gediz539> diego71: ok. I will try to write a basic page.
<matteo_> clementp[m]: thanks for the pointers =)
<swiftgeek> gediz539: emphasize those two points you mentioned if you can
<karlp> what's different iwth t3 vs h3?
<karlp> looks pretty similar,
<swiftgeek> more arm cores
<diego71> t serie is automative, and should be more robust
<swiftgeek> i don't see AR100 mention
<gediz539> swiftgeek: ok. sounds reasonable.
<diego71> usually they have the same ip of a A or H cpu, but different specification (temperature range ...)
<karlp> swiftgeek:, where are the extra cores? I do see a lot of diffs in the mipi/csi/lvds/rgb/TVIn stuff though
<swiftgeek> huh, odb2 already has ethernet broken out
<karlp> emmc 5 vs 4.41 too I guess.
<swiftgeek> oh sorry was looking at wrong one
<swiftgeek> (was looking at T7)
<karlp> has sata on the block diagram too I guess.
* karlp shrugs

<swiftgeek> that's pretty neat
<swiftgeek> no sata on T7
<buZz> cars without sata? pfff
<buZz> no usb3 and no pcie, boring
