<wpwrak>
heh, bug: if the M1 is set to auto-switch through the patches and you press next/prev, the timer isn't reset
<wpwrak>
btw, which function keys change the audio sensitivity ?
<xiangfu>
wpwrak, there is no function keys for the audio sensitivity for now.
<wpwrak>
sigh :-(
<wpwrak>
that's probably the control you need the most :)
<wpwrak>
something else that would be nice for the "out of the box mode" would be to confirm keypresses. e.g., if you press the future "audio down" button, the overlay should give some visual indication, be it just a text message or, better, a bar
<wolfspraul>
xiangfu: we need to put some good stuff on the remote control's keys
<xiangfu>
yes. seems not very hard implement 'visual indication'
<wolfspraul>
like switching patches back and forth: we have that
<xiangfu>
in 'redering mode' we can use 'Volume: ||||||||||||||||||||||||||'Â Â TEXT
<wolfspraul>
then camera settings, brightness & contrast up and down
<xiangfu>
in 'gui mode' maybe a bar :)
<wolfspraul>
audio sensitivity/volume
<wolfspraul>
what else? we find out over time
<wolfspraul>
but definitely I think the remote is what we want to get right for that
<wolfspraul>
we have 2x buttons there, right?
<wpwrak>
xiangfu: in gui mode, you could just pop up the audio settings window :)
<wolfspraul>
maybe it would also be nice to have some on/off button ?
<wolfspraul>
first something to make the screen dark
<wolfspraul>
I think in quite a few real life use cases that's needed
<xiangfu>
what is '2x buttons'?
<wolfspraul>
basically 'halt' the rendering
<wolfspraul>
24
<wolfspraul>
I forgot
<wolfspraul>
twenty something
<xiangfu>
oh.
<xiangfu>
off is easy.
<wolfspraul>
it would be interesting to power off/power on the unit from the remote, but that requires changes in the SoC (standby bitstream)
<xiangfu>
turn the milkymist on. needs Verlog HDL coding.
<wolfspraul>
well, as always the devil is in the detail
<wolfspraul>
yes sure
<wolfspraul>
I'm just listing a few early thoughts. real life use will tell us what is really important ;-)
<wpwrak>
and it gets worse when we generalize the IR control
<xiangfu>
wolfspraul, I will try to look into the remote control code.
<wolfspraul>
audio sensitivity/volume -> I can see how that is important
<wpwrak>
but then, perhaps there could be a "standby" mode that is implemented within flickernoise
<wolfspraul>
maybe also switching between mic and line-in ?
<wolfspraul>
or some way to enable/disable mic & line-in
<wpwrak>
(mic/line) or just have the two, like in the gui
<wpwrak>
mute = minimum volume - 1 ;-)
<lekernel>
no, no OSD _at all_ when rendering
<lekernel>
slashdot is down?
<larsc>
nope
<lekernel>
seems unreachable from alicedsl but works from sweden
<lekernel>
wpwrak, there's no abort() in the demo firmware
<lekernel>
hmm and no calloc() either
<lekernel>
mh, and why do you need dynamic memory at all?
<lekernel>
it doesn't even make sense with global variables... can't you put sc and sc->regs on the stack?
<lekernel>
this way it'd even become thread-safe

lekernel: oh, how do i test that demo fw ? i only tried with "real" flickernoise
<wpwrak>
lekernel: (osd when rendering) i mean in "out of the box mode". like the titles. turn it off for serious use.
<wpwrak>
(malloc vs. stack) that's an option. allocating huge amounts of memory on the stack is generally less portable, but it that's what works better on FN, i'll change it
<cde>
hello !
<cde>
wolfspraul: how are you today?
<wolfspraul>
cde: thanks for asking!
<wolfspraul>
very good. how about you?
<cde>
I'm quite fine, thanks. The weather is really superb here in Paris
<cde>
I just went biking in the forest nearby, it was splendid
<wolfspraul>
same here. splendid weather and blue sky in Beijing
