<azonenberg> Seen it
<azonenberg> darius: something reasonable to look at with a 500 MHz scope
<d1b2> <Darius> that is a nice idea
<d1b2> <Darius> I guess USB2 is good then, 480MHz
<d1b2> <Darius> PCIe? but hard to access
<azonenberg> pcie with a 500 MHz scope? not happening
<azonenberg> even gen1 is 2.5 Gbps
<d1b2> <Darius> oh hmm why was I thinkig 125MHz
<azonenberg> i can do it on my faster scopes, i use pcie gen2 (5 Gbps) on a raspberry pi4 as a common test subject
<azonenberg> for my differential probes etc
<azonenberg> No idea, the refclk is 100 MHz but it's multiplied up
<azonenberg> usb2 is probably a good one, i'll see what i can come up with
<d1b2> <Darius> at least it's nice and accessible 🙂

<d1b2> <mubes> @monochroma I've got hold of a couple of midi controllers which have a shed load of knobs and buttons on them for exactly these kinds of applications (OK, they're designed for music, but you get the idea). Of course, it's on my job-stack and not been done yet. Examples; https://www.behringer.com/product.html?modelCode=P0B3M and https://www.gear4music.com/Audio_Hardware/MIDI_Control_Surfaces.html ...just ignore the ones with actual keyboards and you've
<d1b2> got some really flexible control surfaces. Might need a bit of re-logo'ing but I don't think that's difficult in the whole scheme of things.

* azonenberg imagines using a midi keyboard as a scope control
<azonenberg> A# = insert I2C protocol decode
<azonenberg> (octave selects channel)
<azonenberg> middle C = arm trigger
<azonenberg> lol
jevinskie[m] has joined #scopehal
<d1b2> <Hardkrash> I’m screwed, I’ve never can remember middle c...

<azonenberg> In all seriousness i have a gaming mouse set up a as a very nice glscopeclient control interface
<azonenberg> main thumb button: single shot trigger
<azonenberg> upper/lower thumb buttons: arm normal / stop
<azonenberg> then the usual mouse buttons - left to select/drag, wheel to zoom/pan, right for context menu
<azonenberg> i can do most stuff with only that hand
beckus_ is now known as beckus
<d1b2> <mubes> Im sorry, I can't use this scope, I'm tone deaf

<d1b2> <Tom> Gaming mice are amazing for engineering work
<d1b2> <Tom> I have a 12-button MMORPG mouse for CAD work.
<d1b2> <Tom> Game changer
<azonenberg> The big game changer was turning off the stupid rainbow color changing LEDs
<azonenberg> which took while to figure out how to do under linux :p
<d1b2> <david.lenfesty> huh so there's no way to check if the byte you're receiving is the start of a transfer for the F103 SPI
<d1b2> <david.lenfesty> feels like that would be a nice thing to have
<d1b2> <david.lenfesty> (currently working on the SPI register interface for the host fw)
<azonenberg> Interesting
<azonenberg> i've never used a stm32 spi in slave mode
<azonenberg> it's always been the host side talking to either some sensor or an fpga
