ChanServ changed the topic of ##yamahasynths to: Channel dedicated to questions and discussion of Yamaha FM Synthesizer internals and corresponding REing. Discussion of synthesis methods similar to the Yamaha line of chips, Sound Blasters + clones, PCM chips like RF5C68, and CD theory of operation are also on-topic. [21:32:27] <+andlabs>update: I went with the CBX-K1
<andlabs>
[21:33:14] <+andlabs>it's just the unit on its own so no power cord (but I got it specifically because it has both a MIDI OUT port and runs on batteries and there's lots on ebay) or manual (but yamaha still offers the PDF)
<andlabs>
[21:33:27] <+andlabs>and it also appears to need some retrobrite, so that'll be fun if I choose to risk it
<andlabs>
also it's just the K1, not the K1XG, so it has no synth, but still

And while I'm able to exit vim, about 30% of the time I end up using ctrl+Z, so I'm not the person to ask.

in re [18:13:56] <ej5>there are two kinds of college students who know all the greek letters
<ej5>
that's just a little gain block
<andlabs>
oh
<ej5>
multiply by constant
<cr1901_modern>
I thought the arrow meant variable gain
<cr1901_modern>
like a potentiometer or varicap
<ej5>
it is variable, it's whatever gain is specified by beta
<cr1901_modern>
oh shit, varicap == varactor, which does NOT have an arrow
<cr1901_modern>
TIL

ej5: Anyways, I mostly know markdown by memory, including stuff like tables, so I tend to write most of it before previewing it in Atom. But Dillinger.io should be just fine (and can handle GFM)
<ej5>
cool
<superctr_>
if you use linux, okular is pretty nice
<superctr_>
it auto reloads files
<superctr_>
it's a viewer, not an editor, so you just keep editing markdown in your editor ,and every time you save, it is automatically reloaded
<superctr_>
works for latex too (if you run pdflatex after saving or have your editor do that)
