ChanServ changed the topic of ##yamahasynths to: Channel dedicated to questions and discussion of Yamaha FM Synthesizer internals and corresponding REing. Discussion of synthesis methods similar to the Yamaha line of chips, Sound Blasters + clones, PCM chips like RF5C68, and CD theory of operation are also on-topic. <cr1901_modern> https://twitter.com/Foone/status/1135350378969481216 Also I would use an FPGA, but that's just me... there's been talks of a "Boneless LPC" bus that semi-serializes ISA bus accesses.

<Foone_> every time someone reminds me of the LPC bus I just want to find out if I can use it to run a floppy controller or a soundblaster
<Foone_> and annoyingly the answer seems to always be "no"

<Sarayan> wq: did
<Sarayan> gah
<Sarayan> did I mixed up with spc?
<Sarayan> -ed
<Sarayan> also, hat do you mean by original receipt?
<Sarayan> e.g., what it is you need?
<whitequark> Sarayan: the postal service gave you a piece of paper with address and tracking number
<whitequark> do you still have that?
<whitequark> and/or a photo of the address label
<Sarayan> probably, I'll search my stuff
<whitequark> ok, excellent
<whitequark> also, what is SPC?
<whitequark> never heard of that bus...
<Sarayan> spi, not spc
<Sarayan> I hate mornings :-)
<Sarayan> and the one I actually meant was smbus
<whitequark> ohh
<Sarayan> as an evolution of i2c
<whitequark> well yeah
<Sarayan> way too many busses
<whitequark> actually intel did make a variant of LPC that uses SPI, too
<whitequark> they cut most of the ISA stuff from LPC simultaneously
<whitequark> they're reducing pin count really aggressively
<Sarayan> ah yeah, lpc is the "modern" isa
<Lord_Nightmare> whitequark: do you need the same for the package i sent? i have a photo of the label as well as the reciept
<Lord_Nightmare> i was thinking about going to the post office and trying to recall the package since it can't be delivered properly
<Lord_Nightmare> no idea if that will work or not but i figure its worth a shot
<whitequark> Lord_Nightmare: ideally yes
<whitequark> a photo of the package would definitely help
<Lord_Nightmare> ok. let me figure out how to get that to you
<Lord_Nightmare> if you present a photo of the reciept and package do you think its likely they can deliver it despite the address screwup?
<Lord_Nightmare> or can it only be recalled back to here, because i'm the return addressee?

<whitequark> Lord_Nightmare: they know it's addressed to us
<whitequark> the problem is that they physically can't find the package
<Lord_Nightmare> ah
<whitequark> that's what the photo is for
<Lord_Nightmare> ok
* cr1901_modern wakes up for 2 seconds Eeep... what's missing?
<Lord_Nightmare> a few packages, apparently
<whitequark> it's kind of silly, i've not had anything not arrive in many years before these two packages from ##yamahasynths people...
<cr1901_modern> Must be a curse or something (no, I don't actually believe this.)
<cr1901_modern> I remember a few years ago a shipment of like $10,000 worth of PAL SNES games to be dumped got lost by the USPS. By sheer accident it was found in a warehouse in the southern US (not even close to the intended destination). But the intended recipient was ready to completely retire from preservation b/c of it.
<Lord_Nightmare> there was another similar package sent from the usa to japan, the outer packaging tore and the address label fell off, and afaik that was never recovered
<cr1901_modern> Lord_Nightmare: What service did you use to send the package?
<cr1901_modern> IIRC there's some "high priority" USPS (?) service that one can use where losing a package has consequences (as an alternative to insurance).
<Lord_Nightmare> registered mail
<Lord_Nightmare> it was not certified mail
<Lord_Nightmare> nor was it priority mail
<Lord_Nightmare> tracking shows it stuck at a local post office for almost a month
