descenders are a pain. I spent hours extracting the font from Metal Gear Solid and then released it and then weeks later realized I'd cut off the descenders and had to redo the whole thing

i haven't written decoders for the later two alto font formats

and apparently there's some alto fonts which play fast and loose with the .al specification and may have columns cut off at the right edge without hackery
