iirc the laplink parallel cable is a weird pinout with 4 bits in each direction, which map to 4 status pins on the other end

I could have waited and gotten a laplink cable from storage and a different computer to use, but I was basically trying to get anything that worked ASAP because I didn't know how long the machine would work or if it would ever turn on again

and laplink won mainly because it was already on there, meaning I didn't have to write any data to the disk. I was afraid that was gonna fail, probably while updating the FAT, and I'd lose the whole disk
