ChanServ changed the topic of ##yamahasynths to: Channel dedicated to questions and discussion of Yamaha FM Synthesizer internals and corresponding REing. Discussion of synthesis methods similar to the Yamaha line of chips, Sound Blasters + clones, PCM chips like RF5C68, and CD theory of operation are also on-topic. <Foone>
I want a MCE2HDMI
<Foone>
because the main reasons I'm gonna convert MDA/CGA/EGA is to display them on an LCD or to capture them
<Foone>
and MDA/CGA/EGA are all digital. VGA is analog.
<Nerionaya>
ah yeah I was going to say "just use an upscaler" but it would make more sense if you could just stay in the digital domain
<andlabs>
heh
<andlabs>
probably worth forking it then
<andlabs>
I just need some sort of output, myself; this is for testing C128 80-column mode stuff as part of my debugging

Nerionaya: FWIW, I have literally never enforced on-topic here lol. Including for myself. Didn't start really going OT until I was on a Sega CD kick at the end of 2018 tho.

okay so different question I guess, from yesterday's question: I'm now looking at the mating housings, and digikey says "Note: Contacts Not Included". So wait, how is contact supposed to be made between the crimped wires and the header pins?
<andlabs>
I also see a JST VHS-#V series of "retainers" but I can't find any info about these or what they are
<andlabs>
(also why don't these component retailers have "compatible alternatives" lists for obviously-discontinued-but-not-explicitly-so products)
<andlabs>
wait it seems the terminal sides (the SVH-21T-P1.1) are how you do it? I'll have to get both I guess
<andlabs>
the digikey picture confused me because it looks like plastic but the other sites's pictures make it more clear
<andlabs>
also octapart seems to suggest alternatives
<andlabs>
ah cool the ESD-safe M variant isn't on digikey until late march and neither is the terminal
<andlabs>
are TLC Electronics any good?
<andlabs>
for $500 for one crimping tool the answer is no
<andlabs>
and RS Components is even worse; I'm now overwhelmed again and will come back later
<andlabs>
wait digikey is also selling a slightly different one at the exhorbitant price what the fuck
<Nerionaya>
I think sometimes connectors are sold where you crimp the contact onto the wire and then insert it into the housing?

someone suggested I get the BVH-21T-P1.1 instead of the SVH-21T-P1.1
<andlabs>
which doesn't appear in the datasheet for the VH series connectors
