<ltkeklulz>
I got so excited when I realized I could trade GRC for BTC to buy Steam games without ever needing to spend a single USD
<ltkeklulz>
Of course, I could spend USD to get GRC now since it's cheap at the moment, but the point still stands. I'm essentially able to get free Steam games by contributing to science
<fkinglag>
NO TAXES TOO!!
<fkinglag>
it's awesome
<fkinglag>
so great
<fkinglag>
just straight up GRC > BTC > Steam Game asset
<fkinglag>
I also kinda need to do this if I want to get rid of all those hats I have in my inventory
<ltkeklulz>
I'm convinced that Steam accepting BTC is a major contributing factor in the current bull trend in BTC
<fkinglag>
Steam doesn't allow you to trade things if you haven't made a purchase, since, well, in forever for my case
<fkinglag>
yes ltkeklulz
<fkinglag>
just a couple years ago they were always saying no no no no no
<fkinglag>
now that there's is overwhelming support and also bitpay services alike
<ltkeklulz>
I saw some article about why the price was going up and it was mainly about China buying a bunch of gold. All I could think was. "Nah, it's because techy gamers got excited"
<fkinglag>
everything can go smoothly for lots of companies and stuff
<fkinglag>
heh
SudoNull- has joined #gridcoin

Honestly though, the biggest reason I never got into cryptos was because I didn't really trust the marketplaces. I've still never bought any, but hearing that Steam was going to accept it made me open an account and look into it because I knew the price would jump
<fkinglag>
yeah
<fkinglag>
eventually you may be able to order Steam Hardware if you can afford it

curly-brace: Thanks for reporting the issue with the input fields. I also noticed that yesterday after it was mentioned in the German forum thread.
<marix>
I don't perform any modifications to the client when building, so I assume it is a general bug (that for some reason does not show up in Windows).
<marix>
I'll try to check into it as soon as I find some spare time. This might take a few days, though.
<marix>
Any other Linux user with some dev experience can look into it as well, though, as a raw build from the upstream sources should show the issue.
<curly-brace>
i'm not alone with this shit =)
<marix>
I haven't tried to send something, though. Shows up on all input fields.
<curly-brace>
i'm not experienced with qt..
<curly-brace>
oh yes! first i've tried copy-pasting the address. but then i've used gui button to paste it and issue shifted to amount field

<curly-brace>
caraka, haven't posted it to github
<caraka>
that's Ok, I just found the post on cryptocointalk
<curly-brace>
caraka, as marix said, it is duplicate from some german forum and related to all input fields in wallet
<caraka>
I haven't sent any coin since 2 releases ago. Give me an address and I'll try to send you some coin. I'm on Ubuntu, so a different build, but still nix
<curly-brace>
it will happen as soon as you click address field
<curly-brace>
if your wallet has this bug
<caraka>
ARe you talking about choosing the input address (coin control)?
<caraka>
I just sent it. It seems to work for me on Ubuntu. Like Marix, I don;t alter anything when I compile
<curly-brace>
i see.. your wallet works fine then
<caraka>
So we learned something.
<curly-brace>
when i just click (set cursor) to any field, gui goes to infinite loop (i think so)
<caraka>
specifically, does this problem occur whenyou try to choose the address to send from? the input address?
<caraka>
Oh. So any field at all?
<curly-brace>
just tested.. no
<curly-brace>
amount field :/
<curly-brace>
will try noe to use spinner near the field
<caraka>
interesting. One thing that marix does that I do not is compile with the NO_UPGRADE=1 option. But I cannot see how this could be related
<curly-brace>
i have this option in config too
<caraka>
Is this a config option? I thought it was just a compile option.
<curly-brace>
caraka, i think i saw it in some guide
<caraka>
try removing that from your config. As far as I know, the Upgrade QT Client menu will still be gone if it is a maric build
<caraka>
(marix
<caraka>
agh! *marix
<caraka>
lol
<curly-brace>
spinner freezes wallet too
<curly-brace>
so it may be a 'changed' event..
<curly-brace>
may be
<curly-brace>
dunno qt
<caraka>
Do you have "suppressupgrade=true" in your config or n0_upgrade in your config?
<curly-brace>
no.. that was false thought =)
<caraka>
no worries. :p
<curly-brace>
onlu suppressreboot
<caraka>
I'm about to crash for the night. But I will take a moment tomorrow to look at marix's dependencies and compare them to mine. It's been I while since we compared notes on our builds.
<caraka>
It will be some quirky QT thing, I'm sure

<vesipyks>
Well honestly I am not running any wallet.
<vesipyks>
I have few coins at bittrex and that's it.
<vesipyks>
but I am on OSX and allthough being an android fan for years got tired of that and got an iPhone too a week ago. :P
<vesipyks>
I'm now at the homepage and... there is no OSX version download...
<ltkeklulz>
I'm not coding this weekend in particular. I just finished up some Dijkstra stuff in C++ though
sbravick has joined #gridcoin
<customminer>
vesipyks: Yeah, you need to compile the OSX version yourself :S
<customminer>
vesipyks: I'd look into packaging for you, but I don't have an OSX computer..
<vesipyks>
I am not sure I am up to compile it myself. :D
<customminer>
ltkeklulz: cool, been using c++ long?
<NeuralMiner>
if i see any code for the next week i'm going on a baby-punching rampage.
<customminer>
vesipyks: It's easy peasy..ish. There's guides on how to do it, and it'd give you a deeper understanding of OSX.
<customminer>
NeuralMiner: Haha :P So chill weekend for you then eh?
<vesipyks>
I just started learning Python in october and then at work figured that Instead of waiting for the guy that knows visual basic I could do it myself after work by googling. And then in March got a new job full time VBA programming but I'm still really stupid in all that kind of stuff. :D
<customminer>
VBA's pretty good
<NeuralMiner>
customminer, man, i wish. still have work to do, but at least i dont have to troubleshoot any code building.
<customminer>
Is VBA .net?
<vesipyks>
Well. It's very flexible. :P It can connect to Outlook, SQL, do stuff in computer and so on.
<vesipyks>
No no. VBA in office apps. :P
<customminer>
gotcha
<vesipyks>
So... total amateur. :P So that's why I thought that I'd jump into learning something else too. :P
<NeuralMiner>
a .NET upgrade is a great way to ruin your weekend.
<yoyo[RKN]>
lol
<vesipyks>
Haa... I'll remeber that for the next weekend NeuralMiner! :P
<vesipyks>
I have enough free time to take on both. :P
<NeuralMiner>
never do upgrades on friday. i learned this long ago.
<customminer>
yeah, don't even joke about that
<NeuralMiner>
i did an infrastructure upgrade last friday (had to use the weekend for downtime). nope. nope nope.
<customminer>
NeuralMiner: The most difficult bit will be grabbing the data from the xml (or json if I convert it first) and putting it into the SQL table.
<NeuralMiner>
hwo long does the import take on a big project?

way too much information is still sent by post

envelope*
<vesipyks>
I think there should be no paper in use at all. :P
<Sander96>
I have to send envelopes full of someone's medical history at work sometimes, not very safe imo
<NeuralMiner>
US Mail doesnt fuck around though. they have legit investigators that hunt people down. it's crazy.
<Sander96>
but email is not safe enough yet
<vesipyks>
emails can be crypted
<NeuralMiner>
and registered (or whatever it is...) mail is in locked cases to and from.
<Sander96>
I think the biggest issue they have is that if I'd send the same information through email anyone at that company can access that
<customminer>
brb
<Sander96>
instead of giving the envelope to the right person
<vesipyks>
For example in my country we use ID card and we can encrypt whatever we send to a container and it can be opened only be the person that is is addressed to.
<Sander96>
without opening the envelope
<NeuralMiner>
vesipyks, does the government also have a copy of your private key?
<ltkeklulz>
customminer: I missed your message earlier. I've been using C++ specifically for about 4 months now. Before that, I used Python and a very small amount of C
<vesipyks>
I am not 100% sure but I do not think so.
<Sander96>
I doubt they couldn't decrypt it
<Peppernrino>
<EliteBNC> Send an email to: elitebnc@cfl.rr.com - include the UserName and the NetworkName or IRC.server.name you want. Expect a reply within 24 hours.
<vesipyks>
Sander96: Our government has all the medical info anyway so.. it does not matter if they can decrypt it. :P Our e-health system has all the information about me and doctors and hospitals also put all info there.
<Peppernrino>
sounds like something to hack. :D
<Sander96>
Yeah for sure, for my work it wouldn't have mattered
<vesipyks>
Well the point was that without the ID card of the person that the container is addressed to it is not possible to open it. And even if government could then it is done really hard to do so for everyone else. And that makes it much better than usin good old mail and paper and envelope. :)
<Sander96>
Unfortunately people in the medical/law field don't know anything so I doubt they could make it work :P
<vesipyks>
Well here in Estonia they do. I think in law that is probaby used a lot and in medical field everything between doctor and patient is in the e-health system anyway and one can log in there with ID card of Mobile ID.
<Sander96>
They worked on an e-health system here as well, it failed
<Sander96>
Unfortunate, because it could speed up things
<vesipyks>
Well we had some starting up issues but now it is working and it is so convenient.
<Sander96>
So I'm guessing you yourself can access it
<Sander96>
then doctors can
<Sander96>
all information in one centralised place
<vesipyks>
And I just have to have a document in farmacy to get a perscription drugs. No papers
<vesipyks>
Yeah. All in centralised place but I can log in and choose what can be seen only by myself and what can be seen by doctors.
<Sander96>
can insurance companies access it?
<vesipyks>
No. There is no access to there for insurance companies.
<Sander96>
can you download documents or just see them?
<vesipyks>
I do not remember any download option. I can check.

<Sander96>
Like, at the job I'm doing right now next to studying we basically have to send letters to all the doctors of a person to get their medical information
<Sander96>
So they first have to give us permission, then we can ask the information
<Sander96>
takes ages
<Sander96>
first a letter to the person, he has to answer, then a letter to the doctor, he has to answer, he doesn't answer, send another letter, get an answer = 2 months later, sometimes way more
<vesipyks>
There is no download. Just print option but that is built into browser anyway so.
<Sander96>
print as pdf perhaps
<vesipyks>
Oh. From there the doctor can see it right away unless the person has not loged in and hidden the document. By default everything is visible to doctors.
<Sander96>
Well yeah, but we're the insurance company
<vesipyks>
Ah I see...
<Sander96>
I guess we'd only have to message the general practitioner, but that's here as well sometimes
<Sander96>
here is The Netherlands btw
<vesipyks>
We have national health insurance fund here. It's quite different I suppose.
<vesipyks>
The insurance fund does not need to access these things directly in the system but they probably have all that info in some kind of statistics anyway. Maybe not personal information but overall.
<Sander96>
If someone drives into you with his car the insurance company of the guy will refund all your medical bills etc, so for the insurance agent to know how much you should get, or if you're perhaps lying we need the information
<NeuralMiner>
Sander96, cant do fax?
<Sander96>
They used to do fax, even more unsafe I think
<vesipyks>
Ah ok. This part I have no clue how it works here too. :P

<vesipyks>
But I am thinking that insurance companies probably just get the overall bill from either national health insurance fund of the hospital. And the priced for treatment are standard and do not depend of the hospital.
<Sander96>
yeah but we also have to pay for perhaps the work you've missed, even the pain you have been in, so it's not clear cut
<Sander96>
maybe you had to travel by car instead of cycling = you'll get compensation
<Sander96>
can't walk for the rest of your life? = you'll get compensation
<Sander96>
so that's why they need some info :P
<vesipyks>
Yeah. I think there are simpler cases where it is very electronic and automatic and then more difficult cases where it takes more effort and info. :)
<vesipyks>
It probably also depends of what kind of insurance anyone involved in the accident has.
<vesipyks>
depends a lot, i meant. :P
<Sander96>
The Netherlands has compulsory basic insurance
<Sander96>
so that helps
<Sander96>
Estonia must have that as well right?
<vesipyks>
Well there is yes for a car owner.
<vesipyks>
But I do not think that it includes compensation for not being able to walk for the rest of the life. That is usually something that is claimed via Civil Court.
<vesipyks>
And medical bills are covered by national health insurance so if there is claim to Insurance then they should get this sorted out themselves (I'm bit speculating and not 100% sure though)
<Sander96>
We have it better than the US at least
<Sander96>
basically almost every country :D
<vesipyks>
Yeah. :D Not too bad. :D Here in Estonia - the national health fund system is also really good and the basic insurance for the car owner and some other things... but the problem is the lack of money... :P
