Quiark: getting errors?
<sivachandran>
whyrusleeping: sure will do. Is there any other PR for S3 support that I can have look at
<whyrusleeping>
sivachandran: nope, not yet
<Quiark>
whyrusleeping, yeah about dependency from code.google.com
<whyrusleeping>
the s3 library we're using needs to be changed out, its got a bad license
<sivachandran>
whyrusleeping: is there any other scalable datastore(e.g. AWS DynamoDB) supported in IPFS?
<whyrusleeping>
sivachandran: currently no, s3 was going to be the first one
<whyrusleeping>
if there are any others you think we should support, definitely let us know
<whyrusleeping>
its actually pretty easy to write those drivers
<whyrusleeping>
Quiark: mind filing an issue on that repo? and tag me and the author in it
<sivachandran>
whyrusleeping: i can definitely try to wire up the s3gof3r library if it is just the driver implementation
<whyrusleeping>
sivachandran: yeah, that should be all thats needed
mildred has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds]
<sivachandran>
whyrusleeping: but wondering will there be any other part in IPFS i need to touch
<sivachandran>
whyrusleeping: assuming we implement the S3 support, do you see any problem in running multiple IPFS nodes sharing same datastore like S3?
<whyrusleeping>
sivachandran: hrm...
<whyrusleeping>
if they both only use the s3 datastore for blocks, it should be fine
joshbuddy has quit [Quit: joshbuddy]
<whyrusleeping>
but if they use it for other datastore things like storing the root pinkey, or other mutable things
voxelot has joined #ipfs
<whyrusleeping>
you might run into an issue
<sivachandran>
aah, that is something i also want to clarify. what IPFS stores in the default datastore leveldb? when we have key-value store like leveldb why IPFS also stores files under '/blocks' directory?
<sivachandran>
whyrusleeping: different question, is there a way to find out the download progress/percentage of an object?
<whyrusleeping>
sivachandran: we're working on getting more progress bars, but for now you can do something like `ipfs cat <object> > outputfile`
<whyrusleeping>
and it will print you a progress bar while thats happening
<sivachandran>
i am trying to change the 'refs -r' to have an option to list only local refs and derive the download percentage based on the no. of unresolved refs.
<sivachandran>
my requirement is getting the progress without initiating the actual download
<sivachandran>
i am thinking to download(i.e. refs -r/get/pin) the object in the background and determine the progress in the foreground by resolving the local refs of the object

<whyrusleeping>
sivachandran: the formats in that notes issue would be awesome to have
<whyrusleeping>
but they arent implemented
<whyrusleeping>
as for listing only local refs, `ipfs refs local` would be a good place to look for starting
<whyrusleeping>
if you file an issue about that change i can provide some pointers there
<sivachandran>
oh, then i presume we can't specify two different datastore in the current implementation
<sivachandran>
yes 'refs local' helps but i am afraid it would return huge list of refs when the datastore grows in GBs/TBs
<whyrusleeping>
right, so what i would do there is to use the blockstore (like refs local does) to construct an 'offline' dagservice
<whyrusleeping>
and then use that dagservice to enumerate refs in the way that 'ipfs refs -r' does normally
<sivachandran>
yes, that is exactly what I am trying to do.
<sivachandran>
i am using IPFS through its web APIs. so i can't directly use the dagservice hence trying to modify the actual 'refs' command implementation to provide additional option for this
<sivachandran>
how does IPFS embed mode work? can run IPFS embedded app and IPFS daemon simultaneously or should it be either this or that
