<nicolagreco_>
I was wondering how you guys prevent the Merkle tree second pre-image attack
<nicolagreco_>
do you follow the certificate transparency trick 0x00 / 0x01 ?
<noffle>
nicolagreco_: (source?) if you're talking about what I think you are, we aren't vulnerable to it
<nicolagreco_>
noffle: the problem of hashing a tree and not knowing the size of the tree, it is not collision resistant, so certificate transparency to avoid passing the size of the tree out of bound, they encode leaves with 0x00 and intermediates with 0x01
<nicolagreco_>
it is that it is not*
<noffle>
nicolagreco_: we know the size of our trees
<nicolagreco_>
noffle: alrighty
<nicolagreco_>
where is that encoded though? I didn't have much time to look into the code
<nicolagreco_>
noffle: I was just wondering how you were doing this
<whyrusleeping>
is it common practice to make the 'interface' of something a separate module?
devbug_ has joined #ipfs
<kvda>
Interface likea Go interface?
<whyrusleeping>
kinda
<whyrusleeping>
like, in javascript, you expect an object youre given to have certain methods, right?
<kvda>
it really depends what you're working with, there is not general best practice in regards to that. and it depends what programming paradigm a particular module might follow
<whyrusleeping>
hrm.. okay
<kvda>
but generally i would include both the object / interface in a module
<daviddias>
but since you ask if "you are supposed", think it this way, be as intentional as you can be about your goals for the sprint, it will help you understand your progress and help others in the IPFS community what they can expect to have released 'soon'. In the other hand, if there is something that is blocking you and that you need someone to focus on it, make
<daviddias>
sure that person and understands and that item is added to their priority list
<haad>
sure
<haad>
will add my goals

as 0.4 diverged a lot from 0.3.11 it would be great if we have a stable version of 0.4 out soon

i see ipfs public services like ipfs.pic still running 0.3.11. by having a stable version 0.4 those service could move to newer version

I think anything from master is stable :P

<sivachandran>
M-2617: as far as I know, it splits the original file into chunks and stores them. it also stores the MerkleDAG nodes of the file that references the chunks.

cdnjs (cdn of JS libs) goes from 21GB to 15GB
<ansuz>
what an unfortunate name
<M-2617>
and how is latency on this?

When it works, low. When it breaks, infinite :p
<M-2617>
lol
<sivachandran>
true :)
<Kubuxu>
Usually the former one.
<Kubuxu>
If you run local node, and access side that uses lib stored in IPFS's cdn-js then it is good chance that you already have this lib locally.
<Kubuxu>
If not, you will download it only once.
<M-2617>
so a break makes the duplicate inaccessible infinitly then?

you could search repo, hash by hash looking for directory that contains other files and so on.

<voxelot>
so finishing up what web tests we can do for data-importing
charley__ has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
<voxelot>
okay, will write some web tests for merkle-dag module as well unless you dont think its needed
<daviddias>
voxelot: it is totally worth it :D
<daviddias>
probably they should run without too much hacking
<voxelot>

<daviddias>
re: "seriously that's faster response than a computer should have to lisbon :)" - check out the ocean pipes http://www.submarinecablemap.com/#/ all ocean pipes lead to Lisbon :P
<voxelot>
haha that is awesome
<voxelot>
you must be squatting on the beach just loving life and tapping into those lines
<mildred1>
hey, anyone, I'm using js-ipfs-api and I have an encoding problem: https://github.com/ipfs/go-ipfs/issues/2454 (binary data gets encoded in utf-8 in a JSON document and it's impossible to get the binary data back)
<mildred1>
the problem is in the gateway
<mildred1>
same problem on cmdline
<mildred1>
the problem is that the unixfs protobuf message is encoded as a JSON string. A JSON string is UTF-8 and characters above 127 are unicode errors.
<mildred1>
because the byte array that is a unixfs protobuf message is interpreted as a utf-8 string
<mildred1>
it should be encoded in base64 or some other binary scheme.
<mildred1>
but then you lose the nice property that if the merkledag data is utf-8, it can be embedded right there in JSON
<mildred1>
(I filed the issue this morning)

5:04 PM <Se7en> Guys: Red Alert! Just received an email saying that the W3C will meet between march 20th to 23 to discuss DRM in HTML. The FSF will take action. Be on alert

<Akaibu>
well this could be bad
<Akaibu>
whyrusleeping: you think this is going to get put in?
<doublec>
Akaibu: there already is DRM in HTML - eg the HTML video element has DRM extensions
<Akaibu>
oh really?
<Akaibu>
link to the specs?
