<d1b2> <twam> Maybe I get some biased answers here, but I want to experiment with (n)migen and I'm wondering if I should go with migen (which seems to be more active maintained on github) or nmigen (which claims to be some kind of successor)?

<anuejn> nmigen adresses many design flaws of migen and is imo generally nicer to use than migen
<anuejn> also a lot of comunity is shifting over to nmigen (in my perception)
<anuejn> so for new learning / new projects I would definitely go with nmigen :)
<vup2> one point where using migen might be more useful is, when you want to do a lot with litex, which (if ever) will take a while to switch to nmigen. (You can use nmigen with litex, but its far less integrated)
<agg> twam: make sure you're looking at the right nmigen repo for actively maintained: https://github.com/nmigen/nmigen
<d1b2> <twam> Thanks for pointing this out. Only was looking at https://github.com/m-labs/nmigen 😉
<cr1901_modern> I understand why it doesn't, but I'd like to see litex use the compat layer
<whitequark> the compat layer was made for litex to a large extent
<agg> anyone know why nimgen/yosys verilog ends up with "1hx = 1hx;" statements whenever I have signal.eq(123)? it seems to break diamond
<cr1901_modern> https://github.com/enjoy-digital/litex/wiki/Migen-nMigen This is what the wiki has to say about it
<cr1901_modern> >This is not a long term solution.
<cr1901_modern> Kinda disagree w/ this _florent_... you can transition from the compat layer to nmigen proper at your own pace
<modwizcode> sounds a bit lazy
<modwizcode> I totally understand that though
<whitequark> i respect florent's decisions
<whitequark> migrating a large project can be extremely challenging
<agg> aha, i've finally found some lattice documentation for the ECP5 DSP....
<agg> .... the error messages file that comes with diamond https://imgur.com/a/Olsw5rT
<modwizcode> I think migrating a project is a very annoying task that comes with few benefits, as long as something can be incrementally improved that would probably be the best path forward.
