<abliss> Oh, i forgot to ask: do we need to wait for the trailing-slash patch to roll out before we push the upgrade?
<isd> No, now that I changed to just asking for the root of the domain ttrss isn't affected by that issue.
<abliss> cool
<abliss> Is there a way to put some informative text in the powerbox? It's a bit confusing right now to someone who doesn't understand what's going on.
<isd> I keep meaning to open an issue about that. There isn't. I agree we should be able to provide more context.
<abliss> Does the "provide a URL" option work? I just tried it and it seems to cause the proxy to serve a 406 Not Acceptable
<isd> If you're getting a 406 that's coming from the upstream server; afaik that's not used anywhere the sandstorm source tree (or the proxy I wrote).

<JacobWeisz[m]> So last night I did find the recentChanges issue and tagged everyone in office hours in it. It makes the points for why it should be separate than the changeLog. And I think we probably could show it directly in the app updates notification if we limit the length a lot.

<JacobWeisz[m]> If I fix #3392 it's gonna be a code change that I don't test and don't know if works until Kenton pushes a release... but like, I don't think my proposed fix could make it worse?
<abliss-> does anyone know offhand whether static publishing DNS aliases support subdomains? e.g. can i publish my feed at https://rss.abliss.sandstorm.rapidraven.com/public.xml or only at https://rss-abliss.sandstorm.rapidraven.com/public.xml ?
<abliss-> hmm, looks like the former doesn't work because sandstorm's wildcard SSL cert only validates with one level of subdomain, not two.
<abliss-> I was thinking it would be neat if each user of a sandstorm isntance could use the sandstorm API to manage some NDS TXT records, scoped under their username. Since sandstorm now knows how to do txt records in order to pass acme challenges.
<abliss-> ok, for now I've set up https://rss-abliss.sandstorm.rapidraven.com/public.xml -- JacobWeisz[m] , if you're going to stay subscribed to my published feeds, better to use that url, since I can carry it forwards as I switch which grain hosts my active ttrss instance.
<JacobWeisz[m]> Oooh, fancy. I'll try to remember to do that when I'm home.
<abliss-> also, it seems like in my new version of ttrss, the mobile app doesn't do a good job of syncing last-read state with the web app. Though I'm not sure whether the old version ever did either. Has anyone tested this in eithre the old or new version?
<abliss-> er, i guess i should specify that by "mobile app" i actually mean "News + with ttrss plugin"
<JacobWeisz[m]> My Windows app tends to let TTRSS know every article is read as I read it. My iOS app won't unless I hit the sync button (or wait a while).
<JacobWeisz[m]> I think it just depends how they wrote the app.
<abliss-> ugh, i'm trying the 'official' app and it appears to be pretty useless: it doesn't fetch any articles until you click on them or press "go offline". i'm flabbergasted that anyone ever thought there should be a button for "go offline" on a phone app.

<abliss> i'm tempted to go try to talk to Dolgov about it, even though I already know that interaction will go badly no matter what. Am I way off base? Can you guys ever imagine, in your wildest dreams, pressing a button labelled "go offline" in any phone app ever? why on earth wouldn't you want any app, especially a *phone* app, to transition seamlessly and automatically between network-available and network-unavailable modes?
<abliss> (i.e. what the news+ reader app does)
<kentonv> is it normal for RSS readers to download articles in advance? Feedly doesn't seem to...
<simpson> It's normal for RSS publishers to put most/all of the article into the RSS feed~ But no, it's not normal to grab "attached" linked media.
<abliss> the official ttrss app doesn't even download headlines in advance.
<simpson> Is it grabbing *anything* at all then? That's very strange.
<abliss> looks like it grabs unread counts when you open the app, or periodically if you add a widget to your homescreen. but nothing past counts.
