cr1901_modern: Some IRC client support ghosting your old nick when connecting.
<ValleyBell>
But in those cases logging in, ghosting and changing the nick is usually all done within 1 or 2 seconds.

<Lord_Nightmare>
i have plugins for znc that auto-ghost my nick on networks that support it
<Lord_Nightmare>
efnet doesn't believe in nickserv or nicknames longer than 9 chars so it doesn't work there
<Lord_Nightmare>
but it works pretty much everywhere else

<ahihi>
cr1901_modern: i have keepnick.pl but no automatic ghosting
<cr1901_modern>
ahihi: Cool, was just wondering :). One time I created a bot that had autoghosting, and I wish my client (Pidgin- irssi is fine, but I'm just used to Pidgin) had it.
<ValleyBell>
Pidgin has a plugin that enables automatic ghosting.
<ValleyBell>
I have it installed on my home PC.
<ValleyBell>
It's either irchelper.dll or irc-more.dll, but I think it's the "IRC Helper".

<cr1901_modern>
notably... "/nick" stopped working in my client months ago
cr1901_modern is now known as cr1901
<cr1901>
uhhh...
cr1901 is now known as cr1901_modern
<cr1901_modern>
Maybe it's limited to non-registed users
<ValleyBell>
The /nick command always worked fine for me.
<ValleyBell>
There are only 2 things that really bother me about Pidgin's IRC support:
<ValleyBell>
1. I can't enter coloured text (even though coloured text shows up) due to "not part of the IRC spec."
<ValleyBell>
2. SSL doesn't work properly. The initial connection works, but reconnecting fails due to some cache issue.
