ChanServ changed the topic of ##yamahasynths to: Channel dedicated to questions and discussion of Yamaha FM Synthesizer internals and corresponding REing. Discussion of synthesis methods similar to the Yamaha line of chips, Sound Blasters + clones, PCM chips like RF5C68, and CD theory of operation are also on-topic. Channel logs: https://freenode.irclog.whitequark.org/~h~yamahasynths
<cr1901_modern> whitequark: This is that game you like, right (Kyrandia)? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymTioBu2_Hk

<whitequark> yep!
<cr1901_modern> I like the music. It's calming. Also watched about 20 mins of gameplay and think I'll try it for myself during the break.
<whitequark> yup
<whitequark> cr1901_modern: not on vgmrips :s
<cr1901_modern> hmmm, well that's a shame. I know DOSBOX can dump OPL2 commands, and from there you can convert to VGM.
<cr1901_modern> (I seem to recall you don't need to patch DOSBOX for this, but there is a patch as well: https://vgmrips.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2585)
<cr1901_modern> Oh, I see a familiar name at the end of this thread... cc: ValleyBell
<cr1901_modern> Uhh, dro2vgm doesn't come with libvgm?
<cr1901_modern> Right... found it: https://github.com/vgmrips/vgmtools
<cr1901_modern> whitequark: So, there's at least one major issue w/ this- I can't edit out the SFX :P- but I can at least record DOS VGMs (Kyrandia title) http://gopher.wdj-consulting.com:70/store/main_000.vgm
<cr1901_modern> Looking at my copy of Kyrandia, the music files are stored in this format: http://www.vgmpf.com/Wiki/index.php?title=ADL
<cr1901_modern> Okay I figured out how to capture all the songs w/o sounds
<cr1901_modern> It's utterly stupid and inelegant, but it works
<cr1901_modern> 1. Download http://www.vgmpf.com/Wiki/index.php?title=RdosPlay RDOSPLAY
<cr1901_modern> 2. Open DOSBOX and mount RDOSPLAY and Kyrandia directories
<cr1901_modern> 3. Capture > Record FM output
<cr1901_modern> 4. run "RDOSPLAY.EXE /t$TRACK_NUMBER path\to\kyrandia\$ADL_FILE.ADL
<cr1901_modern> 5. Play the song for as long as desired. DOSBOX will log all the chip writes to a capture/ directory in its invocation directory
<cr1901_modern> 6. Run dro2vgm on the resulting output
<cr1901_modern> 7. Repeat 2-6. for all tracks and all ADL files in Kyrandia directory
<cr1901_modern> 8. Submit vgm pack :)
<cr1901_modern> There is probably a way to automate most of this...
<cr1901_modern> whitequark: When you have a minute, try these 4 tunes: http://gopher.wdj-consulting.com:70/store/kyrandia.zip. They come from "INTRO.ADL". If they work for you, and I get feedback on how to make a rip, I'll keep going
<whitequark> cr1901_modern: ilstening
<cr1901_modern> It sounds fine to me in vgmplay, but want to make sure
<whitequark> cr1901_modern: sgtm
<cr1901_modern> Awesome, I'm going to rest for now. Good to know this horrific setup works lmao
