<superctr> listened to the decrypted rom dumps, sounds like there is some pre-emphasis too (the sample sound tinny)
<superctr> most likely the solution is simple, like in the ZSG-2 chip: a lowpass filter implemented with shifts only
<superctr> also, seems like samples are stored in the ROM with the largest samples first and smallest last
