ChanServ changed the topic of ##yamahasynths to: Channel dedicated to questions and discussion of Yamaha FM Synthesizer internals and corresponding REing. Discussion of synthesis methods similar to the Yamaha line of chips, Sound Blasters + clones, PCM chips like RF5C68, and CD theory of operation are also on-topic. mtcp did the same thing from 2015 to 2020, for similar reasons. New version is FOSS again
<cr1901_modern>
Didn't bother me that much b/c the old version worked fine for my needs, and now is a moot point
<andlabs>
what's mtcp
<andlabs>
also C128 update: alcohol did get rid of the weird white stuff and I was able to remove the RF shield it had just gotten caught underneatht he keyboard connector
<Foone>
mtcp is a tcp/ip stack for DOS
<Foone>
originally written for the PCjr
<andlabs>
I'm going to try cleaning it out some more in a bit
<andlabs>
ah ok
<andlabs>
hey the part under the video chip shield actually seems fine
<andlabs>
Pietro Gagliardi, [05.12.20 20:36] I sprayed the whole board with deoxit, which a) stinks, and b) seems to have done the trick, though now I have to either wash it down or let it dry, not sure which
<andlabs>
Pietro Gagliardi, [05.12.20 20:36] okay well the alcohold idn't actually get rid of teh white stuff; it just diffused back
<andlabs>
Pietro Gagliardi, [05.12.20 20:36] I lightly spread water on it with a paper towel and am now leaving it to dry anyway but if that's wrong let me know
<andlabs>
(wrong use of deoxit I mean)
<andlabs>
I'll try rinsing it off I guess, if no one else thinks it's a bad idea
<andlabs>
washed the board off now; will let it towel dry since we have no real way to make it air dry right now
<andlabs>
there was a piece of tape near the power supply covering a spring and I don't know what that was but now that it's soaked with deoxit I just removed it; let's hope it's not needed
<andlabs>
there's a bunch of taut bodge wires on the underside; here's hoping it's not a commodore job
<andlabs>
it likely is though because lol
<andlabs>
I think this board is gonna make it
<andlabs>
corrosion stains on the plastic case are isolated to the ports on the back of the bottom side; we'll tackle those tomorrow
<andlabs>
also KitsuWhooa that RF modulator is holding on nicely and the corner while nastily rusted hasn't disintegrated
<ZrX-NoMs>
According to some water damage and rust cleans with WD-40. But then you need to clean the WD-40.
<cr1901_modern>
Will IPA 99% remove WD-40?
<fseidel>
andlabs: mmmm, wolfteam :-)
<fseidel>
apparently that says "The Grail Hunter"??? Might be the worst font I've seen in a while
<andlabs>
someone on yja is selling a copy of granada for $130
<andlabs>
which is a bit high imho
<andlabs>
I spepent that much on a copy of Cameltry for X68000 and that comes with a slab of sheet metal with a plastic dial on top that you shove the mouse into
<fseidel>
yeah, Granada is one of the more common games, $130 definitely seems high
<fseidel>
probably wolfteam's best though... although Earnest Evans rivals it for pure entertainment value :-)
<andlabs>
but that's a Mega CD exclusive =P
<andlabs>
(in Japan; we got it on cartridge here in the states)
<fseidel>
the MCD version is the only Japanese game I own on that platform. Best $15 I've ever spent
<fseidel>
It's fun to show off to friends who have never seen it, always gets a laugh
