<stavros>
i just finished that, where do you guys run your daemons usually?
<Magik6k>
stavros, the deamon is usually at :5001 of whatever the origin domain is
<stavros>
Magik6k, ah okay, great, that's the assumption i made too
<stavros>
Magik6k, is it working for you?
<stavros>
the output file is a bit ugly still, i'm afraid
<Magik6k>
Oh, and it won't work as the :5001 api works only for whitelisted hashes and non-browser requests
<stavros>
what do you mean?
<stavros>
you need to add the CORS headers, if that's what you mean
<stavros>
which is a really really big usability nightmare
<Magik6k>
:5001 port api can only be used by webui and apps
<Magik6k>
It's not only CORS
<stavros>
what else is it?
<stavros>
oh sorry
<Magik6k>
[searching]
<stavros>
yeah i don't mean go to ipfs.io
<stavros>
i mean just use your local daemon to get that ID
<Kubuxu>
stavros: you can request any hash locally from :8080 (gateway port)
<stavros>
yeah
<stavros>
that's how this is meant to be used
<Kubuxu>
and only very limited subset from :5001 as any page from it has full access to your API
<Kubuxu>
which means any page that would be loaded from it could do anything with your daemon
<stavros>
ah, what could you load from 5001?
<Kubuxu>
mostly webui
<Kubuxu>
:5001/webui
<Kubuxu>
will redirect you there
<stavros>
ah, i didn't know that, thanks
<Kubuxu>
there are plans from publishing verified dapps latter there but nothing concrete yet
<stavros>
so what's the best way to get people to use my app?
<stavros>
tell them to add CORS?
<Kubuxu>
currently unfortunately yes
<Kubuxu>
there are also plans for API tokens
<Kubuxu>
something like capability system for the API
<stavros>
ah
<stavros>
anything's better than having to add CORS, i guess
<stavros>
right
<stavros>
hmm, why does the webui say i am connected to 0 peers?
<Magik6k>
stavros, I have CORS disabled and it still won't work
<stavros>
Magik6k, it's working fine for me
<stavros>
what does it tell you?
<Magik6k>
ohwait
<Magik6k>
I have gateway at 172.16.x.x and api at 127.0.0.1
<Magik6k>
And it attempts to use 172.16.x.x:5001
<stavros>
ah, that'd be why
<stavros>
you may want to use the localhost gateway
stavros has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<stavros>
yeah
<stavros>
it's looking at the same ip
stavros_ has joined #ipfs
stavros has joined #ipfs
<Magik6k>
I mean, 172.16 gateway is the localhost gateway, it's just not bound to 127.0.0.1 in my setup
<stavros>
ah
<stavros>
yeah right now this needs the gateway to be on the same host

hello
<stavros>
are there any public nodes with CORS enabled, for running apps publicly?
<Magik6k>
notbarton, if the files are pinned(ipfs add pins automatically), you'd need to parse the pins and unpin them. You can run `ipfs repo gc` to remove unpinned files(this will remove all unpinned content)
<notbarton>
so if a file isn't pinned it could be removed at anytime
<notbarton>
?

xelra, In theory yes(sort of), in practice, that would require you to be able to do hash collisions, which in case of sha256 would mean quite spectacular crypto apocalypse
<xelra>
What concerns me actually more is how would one recover from such a collision?
<xelra>
Because if I have money and I don't want certain content on ipfs, I'd maybe be interested in doing such a thing.

xelra, there are no such attacks possible currently, even for md5
mahloun has joined #ipfs
<Magik6k>
No, you underestimate how hard it's to create such collision. Take the BTC hashrate, about 4.8e18/s now, to create a collision you'd need it to work for about 7.6e50 Years. This assumes that btc miners are made for creating collisions(which they are not)
<Magik6k>
(This vory likely oversimplifies many things, but gives the high level perspective)
<Magik6k>

I see. So not even a single collision can happen.
<xelra>
Kinda like waiting for a proton to decay.
<stavros>
xelra, aw man, is that why the proton i've been watching hasn't decayed yet?
<xelra>
irc, that likelihood is even lower. I think it's in the e20 years range.

Hi All, I understand that, to commit raw CBOR bytes to ipfs, the command is `echo <bytes> | ipfs dag put --input-enc raw`. What is the corresponding command to read raw cbor bytes, e.g., `ipfs dag get <hash>`, which yields raw CBOR? Is raw CBOR what I would get if I piped the output of `ipfs dag get` to some other process?
