dumb question incoming. is it possible to keep track of how many times a file was downlaoded externally?
<whyrusleeping>
harharhar: hrm... not easily right now
<whyrusleeping>
you can track how many blocks other peers have downloaded from you
<whyrusleeping>
but right now it doesnt keep track of which blocks
<harharhar>
okay. good to know
<whyrusleeping>
`ipfs log tail` has log messages that should allow you to get that info though
<harharhar>
i'm using the js version
<harharhar>
doesn't seem like it has that command

I would say yes. but nothing in life is guaranteed

igel[m]: How is it incentivized?
<igel[m]>
I could have sworn it is proof of storage (disk) vs proof of computation (CPU)
<igel[m]>
ie: filecoin vs bitcoin
<rodarmor>
The issue that I'm wondering about is that with a traditional storage provider, you get an availability guarantee as well as a durability guarantee. I can see how availability can be incentivized, but I'm wondering how durability can be incentivized.
<rodarmor>
Although, I suppose that if availability is incentivized, durability is sort of incentivized as a side effect. If you can make money making a file available, but you don't have it stored in a durable fashion (single location, no redundancy, etc) then you're risking your income stream going away if you lose the file.

This is interesting news on the embedded database library front - https://redd.it/6hbrrp - SQLite all the things! :D
<libman>
Seriously, I'm brainstorming IPFS - SQLite integration. Store big files on IPFS, everything else in SQLite, and use IPFS to distribute sqldiff patches.
<pawn_>
jbenet has done talks demonstrating how web applications can be loaded from IPFS files via a gateway. Is there an idea that someday IPFS web apps could be accessed by another means other than a gateway? If so, what do we have in mind for this?
<pawn_>
Are there talks about an ipfs URI scheme?
<pawn_>
If so, how would this cooperate with gateways?

pawn_: re uri scheme, there’s a bunch of discussions and work being done around it, this issue has some good info and a bunch of links, to other threads that are relevant https://github.com/ipfs/in-web-browsers/issues/6
<dryajov>
pawn_: eventually the idea is for ipfs to replace HTTP altogether, and some of the URI discussion is around reverting the rift between unix FS paths and URLs… the current approach is a compromise that will fit the current web model, both from the backend web perspective and the browser UX/UI...
