Slow DNS propagation is killing me while I'm trying to figure out IPNS stuff... Question: Do I have to do a dnslink TXT record that points to ipFs as an intermediary step before I can create a dnslink TXT record that points to my ipNs hash?
<evanstucker>
Also, do I need to put the TXT record on the subdomain like this:
<evanstucker>
If so, how can I make it work with a CNAME that points to gateway.ipfs.io?
chris613 has quit [Quit: Leaving.]
<evanstucker>
Yup, answered my own questions. No, you don't need to dnslink to ipfs before dnslinking to ipns. And the DNS records for a subdomain look like this:
<lgierth>
brianthehoffman: yeeah we eat up too many FDs just by accumulating so many connections
<lgierth>
and then when we do actual stuff, there's not enough FDs
dowwie has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
<lgierth>
you can increase the ulimit outside of ipfs as a workaround
<brianthehoffman>
we’re looking to distribute OpenBazaar soon and asking users to increase that limit is pretty advanced. is there any suggestion on ways around this other than asking users to modify their os at the command prompt?
<brianthehoffman>
like configuring it to limit connections or something?
<lgierth>
there's something in the works for closing not longer needed connections but right now there's no good way...
<lgierth>
these too many open files are also not hard errors, it'll just keep retrying
<lgierth>
not ideal, but it's only a slowdown compared to a breakage

lgierth: I can still see that causing deadlocks (have a bunch of files open that won't be closed until we open one last file) but that's not likely to happen.

causes dreadlocks

stebalien: ugh :(

The only tried-and-true solution I know of is to implement something like an oom killer...
<stebalien>
But we'll cross that bridge when we get there (after we stop keeping every connection open indefinitely).

and when we start closing connections
<vyzo>
we need to figure out all these protocols that will break because they rely on implicit connections
<vyzo>
eg: pubsub, relay, etc
<vyzo>
we'll need some mechanism to keep connections open!
<vyzo>
can't just start killing indiscriminantly

Has anyone ever considered adding support for something like bittorrent web seeds, where a node can add a regular http source for a file to the network?
