<JCaesar>
there is dht findprovs. what do you need that for?
<r0kk3rz>
pubsub is probably better
<r0kk3rz>
but it sounds like you're securing something, so explaining your usecase is advised

Hi, thanks for responding. Im trying to build a blockchain application and im using want to use IPFS to handle the large file distribution and storing the IPFS Hash in the blockchain. Im using a private blockchain so when adding a new node it needs to be given permission to join. So the new node will need to find an existing node to be able to join the rest of the blockchain

Vyzo, really excited about this gossip work. Was going to start writing my own last night haha. Then I wake up and you have this amazing amount of work. Going to read through all that you've done. You're moving fast, anything I can do to help out?

We see that some apps are claiming they use ipfs in their infrastructure. But how can we confirm these claims? Should ipfs announce these kind of projects in their enviroment? For example a decentralized multim purpose mesaenger E-chat claims they use ipfs for offline messages and file sharing in their app. How can we know in an easy way that this is valid
<lgierth>
over time we've come across quite a couple of projects that are pretty vocal about being "built on ipfs" but are actually centralized services
<whyrusleeping>
Tantin[m]: thats a great question
<lgierth>
look for identifiers starting in Qm..., and for the use of e.g. ipfs.io gateways
<lgierth>
or infura.io gateways

lgierth (IRC): of course ı know technically how to spot it by observing network traffic but I look from the ordinary users point of view. In the end they are majority and startups are hungry wolves to make them believe as the way they want. Like blockchain, ipfs is getting more popular everyday and we see it becomes a good fraud advertising keyword for scammers.
