<GantZzz> Hi all

<GeneralStupid> Hi, flash_image does not work. If i try flash_image boot, he cannot find the boot partition
dlan has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds]
<GeneralStupid> i have built a new kernel for my orangepi pc, but how can i install it? I wont build a whole new android partition because that android works very wenn (except for Wireless support)
<GantZzz> I have a new board that was running linux. It's got mali400 GPU and I need to run android on it. I couldn't identify the CPU hardware vendor (noname i guess), but I could make android running using vendor provided kernel, but in qemu emulator mode. Currenlty I'm trying to get GPU vorking, vendor doesn't provide mali DDK drivers, all I have is limMali.so with all GL ES implementation in it
<GantZzz> + linux kernel mali driver modules source (mali.ko, ump.ko)
<GantZzz> I get balck screen in android so I guess I'm missing gralloc (+hwcomposer maybe)?
<GantZzz> I would appreciate any suggestions or if one could point me to a right direction?
Zotan has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
<GeneralStupid> what is the result if you "insmod" the modules on the console (dmesg after insmod)
<GantZzz> mali.ko driver successfully loaded or so
Zotan has joined #linux-sunxi
<GantZzz> I'm assuming the kernel modules mali.ko and ump.ko are fine and working
<GantZzz> also I've put the libMali.so that they've provided under /system/lib/egl/libEGL.so and the surfaceflinger has stopped crashing all the time
<GeneralStupid> for my kernel it does not work to load the linux modules :/
<GeneralStupid> what board do you own?
<GantZzz> It's a prototype of a new device :-) read it as a no-name board
<GantZzz> Sorry to hear that in your case the driver won't load successfully

<GeneralStupid> as i said, i have built a new kernel and a boot image... But i cannot install it
<GantZzz> why?
xenoxaos has joined #linux-sunxi
<GeneralStupid> i dont know how. There is no boot partition label... and flash_image does not work (because there is no label i guess)
<GantZzz> which bootloader are you on?
focus has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<GantZzz> if its u-boot you may have to unpack your boot image and repack it to u-boot compatible format and boot it manuallly
<GeneralStupid> GantZzz: does android use u-boot? I thought there is an own bootloader?
Zotan has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
<GantZzz> GeneralStupid: It veries.
<GeneralStupid> GantZzz: how can i try this? because i dont have a boot partition - or do not see one
<GantZzz> GeneralStupid: android in general gives no sh** how are you booting your kernel
<GantZzz> GeneralStupid: What board are you on?
Zotan has joined #linux-sunxi
<GeneralStupid> GantZzz: i dont like android. maybe i just compile every video stuff with video accleration
<GeneralStupid> GantZzz: orangepi pc
clonak has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
<GantZzz> GeneralStupid: why don't you go and get prebuilt binaries then since its a pretty common board
lerc has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<GantZzz> GeneralStupid: it's got already everything on any flavour: linux, android
<GeneralStupid> GantZzz: there are no prebuilt binaries with video accleration support (except mplayer)
<GantZzz> oh I see
rfugl has joined #linux-sunxi
<GeneralStupid> on android, everything is fine :) except for kernel modules ...

clonak has joined #linux-sunxi
<GeneralStupid> why dont they compile a kernel with more then three usb drivers?
<GantZzz> GeneralStupid: no idea.
<GantZzz> I'm in an opposite situation where I've got linux with video acceleration working, but no GLES for android
<GantZzz> but i believe we both got to have DDK drivers
<GeneralStupid> on linux i compiled them on my own...

<TheLinuxBug> pfft
<TheLinuxBug> week sauce
<buZz> i'll go make a coffee, they better not be sold out when i return
<TheLinuxBug> lol
<buZz> hmmm nope
<libv> buZz: how often do you guys want to be fooled?
<buZz> plz , couple more times
Guest56061 is now known as jero
<buZz> its like they are only just discovering that sending email takes time :P

<libv> i would stop trying to buy if i were played with like that
<buZz> lol
<libv> but i felt i was being played with the second they started their kickstarter
<buZz> i dont have prebuyers remorse as you describe it :)
<TheLinuxBug> well this is antio-climactic
<libv> vote with your feet then.
<TheLinuxBug> well, was disappointed by the new RPi Zero too
cnxsoft has quit [Quit: cnxsoft]
<TheLinuxBug> with not being able to actually buy it for $5
<TheLinuxBug> that seemed scammy to me
<libv> TheLinuxBug: and chip is better in that respect?
kivutar has joined #linux-sunxi
<TheLinuxBug> if you say somethign is 5$ you shouldn't allow companies selling it to only sell it in a 'package' with a bunch of other crap you may/may not need for another 25$
<TheLinuxBug> I don't know that either is better than the other
<libv> how much was .eu shipping again for chip?
<TheLinuxBug> kinda disappointed so far in both releases
<libv> how much time have you just spent waiting on this?
<libv> how much is your time worth?
<TheLinuxBug> In the US they only released the zero in 1 major brick and mortar store that isn't within 300 miles of me and on adafriut with a $30 only
<TheLinuxBug> meh, 20 minutes?
<libv> i would've waited max 3 minutes.
<TheLinuxBug> not too worried
<libv> that's about what 5usd is worth
<TheLinuxBug> bought me a pcDuino3 Nano Lite last night for $15
<TheLinuxBug> it will be better than both
<libv> then why bother with the chip?
<TheLinuxBug> gotta love a $15 A20
<libv> plenty of people deliver in that price-range, but perhaps not to .us
<TheLinuxBug> I would love to get a few BPi M1's for that price
domidumont has joined #linux-sunxi
<libv> hrm, seems i am wrong
<libv> but still
<libv> seems like no-one wants the pcduino3 nano :)
<TheLinuxBug> well
<TheLinuxBug> I am wondering
<TheLinuxBug> will I be able to use same image on the BPi M1 on these
<buZz> TheLinuxBug: pimoroni had a 8gbp package with zero + 2 adapter cables
<TheLinuxBug> or will I still have to create a new uboot?
<buZz> TheLinuxBug: or 4gbp 'just the zero'
<buZz> when i ordered at least
<buZz> ooo they found the shop site .. its not open yet
<TheLinuxBug> buZz: problem is I am in US, and the options in the US were really sad. Supposedly in UK you could either get MagPi or get it from retailer at close to the right price
<buZz> TheLinuxBug: yeah , all shipping to/from US is inflated
<TheLinuxBug> well the 2 retailers as I mentioned above in the US are sad
<buZz> adafruit , what was the other?
<TheLinuxBug> one is a brick in mortor store only located in a handful of states
<TheLinuxBug> which you must go to the location to get it
<wens> doesn't aliexpress ship to us?
<TheLinuxBug> they don't ship
<TheLinuxBug> the other only sells in a package
<buZz> IT OPENED
<TheLinuxBug> Microcenter
<TheLinuxBug> WAT
<libv> buZz: true, the amount of extra money i had to spend to get a .us laptop shipped to .eu was insane, but not as insane as the time i wasted on reshippers and stupid companies like newegg
<buZz> estimated shipping ; june 2016
<buZz> pfff
<libv> :)
<TheLinuxBug> so
<TheLinuxBug> its 14$ all in
<buZz> with the 'getchip' coupon?
<TheLinuxBug> DescriptionPrice

<buZz> 6 usd worldwide shipping
<TheLinuxBug> wow have to wait till june
<TheLinuxBug> such a long wait
<libv> TheLinuxBug: was all of it worth your time?
<TheLinuxBug> all of what
<TheLinuxBug> the 5 minute I waited ?
<libv> and then 7 months
<TheLinuxBug> I haven't even ordered it yet, lol so I duno
<buZz> oh you can order >1
<buZz> yeah dno if i'm gonna preorder
<TheLinuxBug> debating ordering one for my nephew and teaching him to use it
<TheLinuxBug> I dont' really need one
<buZz> maybe that pocketchip is more fun
<TheLinuxBug> have plenty of little boards
<buZz> for a future sometime toy
<TheLinuxBug> BPi M1, Cubieboard, RPi B+, RPi 2, a few ARM9 boards (various marvell) and then I got that pcDuino3 Nano Lite coming
<TheLinuxBug> and I have several of each of those
<TheLinuxBug> lol
<TheLinuxBug> I have like 3 cubieboard a10s
<buZz> :)
<buZz> yeah you got the linux bug
<TheLinuxBug> I need to start selling them my self :p
<buZz> ^_^
<buZz> TheLinuxBug: plz dont put a countdown on your shop when you open it ;)
<TheLinuxBug> LOL

<TheLinuxBug> leguin.freenode.net
<TheLinuxBug> now I am on that SE one
<libv> as said, many people are having difficulties as the network is under attack
<libv> i had to switch away from kornbluth as that was very unstable for me, even though geographically it should be the closest
<NiteHawk> same here. i'm usually preferring kornbluth, but have the round-robin as a fallback - and i keep ending up on sinisalo...

<rellla> ready made opi image + h3 branch`?
vishnup has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<jemk> not from me, i won't touch ready made images ;)
<rellla> i meant, how to play with it? with a vendor image?
<rellla> jemk: and do still use the RE-tools/ tracer linked from the wiki?
<jemk> i used archlinux arm with the kernel from vendor lubuntu
<jemk> sure, what else?
<jemk> it works perfect
<rellla> sure, nothing else :p
<rellla> so if it was almost too easy, whats next on your tasklist? :p
<jemk> nove did a great job there
<jemk> v4l driver i guess
<rellla> +1
<plaes> cedrus on H3?
<rellla> i want to put that two branches together, even if it's wasted time ...
<plaes> err.. cedarx

<jemk> :D
reinforce has joined #linux-sunxi
<jemk> rellla: except the two commits marked H3 only it should work on all sunxis
domidumont has quit [*.net *.split]
<jemk> and for these two we need some way to get the kernel interface version
<rellla> display or ve?
<jemk> both
<jemk> someone had the funny idea to insert an ioctl and shift all behind by +1
<deskwizard> jemk, on H3 vs others ?
<libv> jemk: ah, just like mali
<jemk> i think since A23 or so
<libv> and the norm for pvr
<wens> what did i miss
<jemk> vdpau on h3 with h265
<plaes> wens: vdpau on h3
<libv> i did up finding a working test for mali, but it was based on a versioning ioctl
<libv> +end
<deskwizard> uhm k, I'll let you pro's discuss it and learn instead of proving how much knowledge I lack :P
<libv> our sunxi-mali repo has that code
<ssvb> libv: everything has changed on h3, even the sysfs interface for gpio
<rellla> jemk: you have version_check for ve already there, haven't you? VE_VERSION 0x0f0?
<libv> pfff
<jemk> yeah, but before we can read that register we need some ioctls...
<libv> but anyway, there was a shift in the ioctls before the version ioctl
<jemk> and disp2 is a complete mess anyway
<jelly> <libv> but anyway, there was a shift in the ioctls before the version ioctl # thanks for making me laugh, tho!
<ssvb> jemk: yes, when I looked at all this mess, I got pretty much upset and disgusted
vickycq has quit [Quit: WeeChat 1.0.1]
<jemk> it took me more time to figure out how to use disp2 than to get (basic) h265 decoding
<jemk> and many things seem to be unfinished, colorkey for example
vickycq has joined #linux-sunxi
<ssvb> jemk: it's a good time to finally move the mali driver to the current mainline kernel (so that the lima driver works with it)
<deskwizard> ^ wait, am I understand the implications of this correctly or am I still daydreaming ?
<ssvb> jemk: about the disp API, Cubietech hacked the xf86-video-fbturbo ddx to make it work with A80 - https://github.com/cubieboard/a80-xf86-video-fbturbo/commit/d1f0e18391d42b31f122faecd9af9af93ef15dcd
<ssvb> jemk: I'm not sure if A80 already has a different hardware, but the kernel interfaces have changed quite a lot
<ssvb> jemk: Allwinner clearly could not care less about the software compatibility
<ssvb> deskwizard: yeah, it should not be too difficult to get the good old simple spinning cube demos working with some patches on top of the mainline kernel
<jemk> ssvb: based on a quick look h3 has yet another interface again.

<bmeneg> hello everyone, something really strange is going on with my wlan module driver (AP6210 on Cubietruck): everytime I load it (with modprobe) it starts and works just fine, but everytime I rmmod it and turn to load it I get some errors: http://pastebin.com/4eGrU4Pw and the module doesn't loads with the error "modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'bcmdhd': No such device".
<bmeneg> does anyone have any idea about it?
ssvb has joined #linux-sunxi
<bmeneg> and another thing, if I restart the cubietruck, which uses an archlinux distro, the systemd-modules-load takes almost 1m30s to stop "all" modules, although just bcmdhd (ap6210 driver) is present on /etc/modules-load.d/

<flok420> any idea how to enable SPI on the banana pi M2? raspi-config doesn't work
<TheLinuxBug> you need to enable it in the script.bin file
<TheLinuxBug> FYI Google is your friend
<flok420> this is not a banana pi pro, it is an m2
<flok420> also the /boot is totally empty. it is /dev/sda1 and it is mounted but that's it. no fex or whatever file
<TheLinuxBug> have you read that link I posted
<TheLinuxBug> and tried what it says?
<TheLinuxBug> likely you didn't enable the module
<TheLinuxBug> or don't have it compiled in your kernel
<flok420> the spi_bcm2708 module is not there. there's only a spi_gpio, spi_bitbang and a spidev
<flok420> I have not build the kernel. this is a "stock" banana pi m2 system
<TheLinuxBug> spidVery unlikely since the M2 is also not a board using a BroadCom SoC. Have you tried a 'modprobe spidev' already? To check whether kernel support is present I would've a look at the output of
<TheLinuxBug> zgrep CONFIG_SPI /proc/config.gz
<TheLinuxBug> still reading the same article
<TheLinuxBug> Need to have a longer attention span and actually read things
<flok420> /proc/config.gz is not there, also not when I do modprobe config (sometimes it is a module)
<TheLinuxBug> well then you may have to compile the module for it
<TheLinuxBug> I know there are some images out there with it already enabled for you
<TheLinuxBug> but you will have to search
<TheLinuxBug> so another few moment spent googling
<TheLinuxBug> I am pretty sure that explains exactly what you need to do

<flok420> nope, that's only sources etc for wiringpi
<flok420> found kernel sources at https://github.com/BPI-SINOVOIP/BPI-Mainline-kernel Know how to compile them just not how to install them: can;'t find any traces of uboot or anything in the /dev/mmcblk0p1 (well, /dev/sda1 on the device itself) vfat filesystem
<TheLinuxBug> Please re-compiler M2-BSP.
<TheLinuxBug> Change the following files, boot.fex , env.fex , and 3.3.0-BPI-M2-Kernel.
<flok420> yes, I saw that. that link points to something discussing wiringpi

<flok420> ok this may be something:
<TheLinuxBug> er
<TheLinuxBug> nm thats for a20
lemonzest has joined #linux-sunxi
<TheLinuxBug> I think you need WiringPi to make it work btw so I think that was the correct link, you need to follow it and install WiringPi if you havent
<TheLinuxBug> Please use WiringPi directly.(No plugins and "gpio load spi" command are needed)
<TheLinuxBug> We've successfully run SPI device.
<flok420> right but wiringpi is not usable for me. I have some existing python code that directly interacts with the /dev/spi* devices. I'm now going to build that kernel from that github link
<flok420> on an nfs share because I doubt the sd-card will survive :-)
