ChanServ changed the topic of ##yamahasynths to: Channel dedicated to questions and discussion of Yamaha FM Synthesizer internals and corresponding REing. Discussion of synthesis methods similar to the Yamaha line of chips, Sound Blasters + clones, PCM chips like RF5C68, and CD theory of operation are also on-topic. Channel logs: https://freenode.irclog.whitequark.org/~h~yamahasynths
<andlabs> I won't need it, but thanks
<andlabs> I do have a Roland Boutique D-05, which is the newest LA synthesis thingy that Roland made
<andlabs> one day i will try to see if I can make it usable from dosbox as an MT-32
<cr1901_modern> ej5: Why is there a need for backup power? And while that is indeed a cute BFC, why not use a battery?
<ej5> don't like dealing with batteries soldered on a board
<cr1901_modern> ahhh fair. There's plenty of good reasons to feel that way
<cr1901_modern> I actually like barrell NiMH batteries when they don't leak
<cr1901_modern> uhhh, NiMH is the wrong chemistry
<ej5> true story: swapped a nicd barrel battery out of my trs-80 model 100 with an nimh. after a few years it too leaked :(
<cr1901_modern> :(... one of the rechargeable chemistries is objectively better than the others but requires a microcontroller to prevent it from blowing up

<cr1901_modern> mofh: https://twitter.com/bofh453/status/1175581718390218752 Interesting the concert you've seen most is Pictures. I love Promenade and The Great Gate.
<TD-Linux> MT-32s are sought after more than SC-55s and command higher prices, I still think they count as "common" tho
<TD-Linux> Does Recomposer run on X68000?
<andlabs> considering that it was used *for* x68000 music...

<TD-Linux> not a guarantee. all the pics of x68000 shops I've seen also have a pc98 at their workstation

<ValleyBell> TD-Linux: I think there is a PC-98 and an X68000 version.
<TD-Linux> does the x68000 version support midi keyboards?
<ValleyBell> no idea, I haven't used Recomposer yet

* SceneCAT np MU100_Demo_PortAB-MU100.mid
<SceneCAT> on MU128
<SceneCAT> and when i press unmute/solo on MU80 signal on mixer....lol
<SceneCAT> even the SC-88 and SC-88 Pro both try to tag along
<SceneCAT> yes, i have all audio signals to mixer. excpept for the SC-88, that output goes to SC-88 Pro Input. mixer no more channels
<SceneCAT> heavy MU128 and MU80 Display Activity. niiice...hehe
<SceneCAT> ValleyBell: i asked a friend to check that seller. he asked seller if possible to ship to NL. no reply yet. *Paws Crossed*
<SceneCAT> he's currently working on a Teradrive....lol.
<SceneCAT> he also dos NESrgb mods and sells those. and many more !Projects

<andlabs> waht company made Recomposer?
<SceneCAT> no clue, perhaps 'by Music Paradise, LLC' when googling
<superctr> Recomposer was made by a company called Come On Music
<superctr> their name is in fact part of the header in each RCP file
<SceneCAT> ValleyBell: " SceneCAT: seller won't ship it overseas :( " ....aahw, to bad huh?
<ValleyBell> awww ....
<ValleyBell> I really have no luck with that, I guess.
<ValleyBell> and I'm really surprised the offer is still up
<ValleyBell> so at this point I have no clue how to I could even obtain that thing
<SceneCAT> yeah, too bad.
<SceneCAT> same here, no clue either atm
<SceneCAT> i'll keep an eye out for it on dutch auction site from now on tho
<ValleyBell> thanks a lot!
<ValleyBell> I probably wouldn't buy one for more than 100 € though.
<SceneCAT> think i'll start at 50e....same with stuff like SC-55...lol
<ValleyBell> At this point I wouldn't even mind buying such a cheap one by myself, but I can't get that one anyway.
<superctr> you will start at 50e, but you will end at 50e+100
<ValleyBell> I'd love to own a CM-64 someday though. Those are 200e upwards though.
<ValleyBell> btw, my MU128 version: 1.06 98-OCT-01
<ValleyBell> So it's the same revision as yours, SceneCAT.
<SceneCAT> hope i come across one at some opint.....for less than 100e incl postals
<SceneCAT> ah, same version. nice
<ValleyBell> also, nice fact about the MU128: It's the first one with major additions to the GS/TG300B instrument map.
<ValleyBell> The GS map stayed the same from MU80 to MU100 (aside from "fixing" the location of a sound in MU90/100)
<ValleyBell> but for the MU128 they added a bunch of XG sounds to the GS map to make it more compatible with the SC-88/88Pro.
<ValleyBell> They didn't touch the drums at all though.
<SceneCAT> yeah. cool stuff
<SceneCAT> tho not always complete or up to date perhaps
<Lord_Nightmare> ValleyBell: why not ask someone in the UK to grab the cm-32p?
<andlabs> hm
<andlabs> this post claims timidity has support for the recomposer file formats
<cr1901_modern> Not to derail the topic, but does anyone have official docs for SM8521? Sharp still has a datasheet on their website but no opcodes
<cr1901_modern> And looks like MAME project figured out the opcodes from REing (fun)
<superctr> if there is an MAME implementation and were official docs, Stilett0-away would have it
<andlabs> Pietro Gagliardi, [22.09.19 15:55] well I spent all day so far trying to revers eengineer the sequential musicmate software disc so I guess I can add C64 to the list of platforms I've done disassemblies of code for
<andlabs> Pietro Gagliardi, [22.09.19 15:55] made very little progress on the communications protocol though
<andlabs> Pietro Gagliardi, [22.09.19 15:55] I think it's using that joystick simulating a kebyoard thing

<andlabs> update
<andlabs> just confirmed: the D-05 does come with all the expansion card sounds built-in
<andlabs> as patch bank P3-P6
<andlabs> music composition update: the midiplus tbox 2x2 works fine, but all the linux software I tried either does not want me to make midi connections, does not record midi notes for some reason, does not fit in a 1024x681 screen (rosegarden), or has hella lag and stuck note syndrome (MusE)
<andlabs> ardour on mac just crashes.
<andlabs> more software attempts will have to wait for next week
<andlabs> oh yeah I alos tried Haiku but I think VMware glithced out and made it stop recognizing usb devices but meh
<cr1901_modern> >ardour on mac just crashes.
<cr1901_modern> Well damn
<andlabs> okay I think I figured out the protocol for that sequential keyboard! just need one of my own to test it with...
