ChanServ changed the topic of ##yamahasynths to: Channel dedicated to questions and discussion of Yamaha FM Synthesizer internals and corresponding REing. Discussion of synthesis methods similar to the Yamaha line of chips, Sound Blasters + clones, PCM chips like RF5C68, and CD theory of operation are also on-topic. <andlabs> >look at the hoot source code
<andlabs> >00README.txt contains — in very good enlgihs — what I'll need to build it
<andlabs> >MAME 0.54
<andlabs> oh
<andlabs> oh no
<andlabs> oh dear that is so far behind it's not even

<andlabs> oh my god
<andlabs> I can't even download the right version of RAZE anymore
<andlabs> in fact, no version was ever backed up on the internet archive
<andlabs> okazaki's EMU2413 is also a no-go but I think libkss has it already
<andlabs> fmgen/m88 is also gone
<andlabs> let's see if those two are on archive.org though
<andlabs> also the version of RAZE on zophar.net has a version number of 2.21 somehow despite development stopping at 1.06
<andlabs> archive.org did not save fmgen either
<andlabs> oh lol
<andlabs> libkss is by the same guy
<andlabs> just changed the name from PC Sound Antiques to Digital Sound Antiques
<andlabs> two out of four ain't ... bad?????
<andlabs> > VRC7 presets by Nuke.YKT
<andlabs> hye look at that nukeykt you helped one of the really old emulator authors
<andlabs> of course this version of emu2413 is a lot newer than wha thoot says it needs
<andlabs> so maybe it's 1/4
<andlabs> so I'm going to go out on a limb and say that hoot is a dead end
<andlabs> aaaand I should have paid attention to the filename
<andlabs> hootsrc20011006.cab
<cr1901_modern> andlabs: For future reference brezza_dsa == digital-sound-antiques
<andlabs> okay, but that name doesn't sound familiar
<andlabs> if they are here then cool
<cr1901_modern> Yes, they come in here from time to time
<cr1901_modern> and are also on the hellsite
<cr1901_modern> (forget their handle)

<Lord_Nightmare> andlabs: are you trying to find the oldest version of the fm.c code?
<Lord_Nightmare> i think that's tatsuyiki saitoh's code? maybe?
<Lord_Nightmare> i think he did the same code in mucom88, but under a different alias
<Lord_Nightmare> the code mucom88 uses for fm emulation
<andlabs> no
<andlabs> I was looking for the specific versions required by the hoot source code
<andlabs> which is an archive from 200
<andlabs> 1
<andlabs> I don't think the latest version of hoot is that old
<Lord_Nightmare> Foone: you around?
<Lord_Nightmare> i decoded those corona pc charset roms
<Lord_Nightmare> there's a lot of bitrot
Xyz39808 has joined ##yamahasynths
<Lord_Nightmare> but you can see the character set
Xyz_39808 has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
<Lord_Nightmare> actually scratch that
<Lord_Nightmare> your 'good dump' is actually good
<Lord_Nightmare> i don't see any rot there
<Lord_Nightmare> here's how to view the charset
<Lord_Nightmare> interleave.exe Corona\ PPC400\ -\ 100078-003.bin Corona\ PPC400\ -\ 100078-004.bin out1a.bin
<Lord_Nightmare> now open it in binxelview, set bpp to 1, width to 2048, height to 16, little endian checked
<Lord_Nightmare> and you can scroll sideways through the font using the 'byte' offset in the upper left
<Lord_Nightmare> its 256 characters, codepage 437
<Lord_Nightmare> why the characters have a stride of 2048 for every character line, i don't know. its an odd way to lay out a chatracter rom, but i could see why it would be done, in theory
<Lord_Nightmare> font is 8x16
<Lord_Nightmare> looks fairly unique too, i can't say i've seen this one before
<Lord_Nightmare> er, 16x16
<Lord_Nightmare> Foone: ^
<Lord_Nightmare> good luck fixing the system btw
<Lord_Nightmare> I was able to capture those images with some rather nonstandard binxelview settings
<Lord_Nightmare> set byte to 0 for the first half (the stuff below that is the font getting slowly shifted between the halves vertically)
<Lord_Nightmare> set the byte to 1000 for the second half
<Lord_Nightmare> its a very pretty font

<balrog> [10:36:48] <ajrhacker>I've been looking at a lot of synthesizer schematics lately. The Yamaha DX-5 surprised me in that none of its three XTAL values are currently defined in xtal.cpp. The dump of that which I've seen is missing both slave CPU ROMs, alas.
<balrog> anyone has a DX-5?

<Lord_Nightmare> balrog: there were only about 500 DX-5's made, it was the deluxe woodgrain dx-7 with effectively two monophonic voices and a keyboard split
<Lord_Nightmare> i think it has two ops/egs pairs
<Lord_Nightmare> they're very rare

<ValleyBell> andlabs: Hoot is weird. It still gets updated very regularly.
<ValleyBell> It's just the ancient source code archive.
<ValleyBell> So Hoot is effectively closed-source now.
<andlabs> it always was, at that rate
