ChanServ changed the topic of ##yamahasynths to: Channel dedicated to questions and discussion of Yamaha FM Synthesizer internals and corresponding REing. Discussion of synthesis methods similar to the Yamaha line of chips, Sound Blasters + clones, PCM chips like RF5C68, and CD theory of operation are also on-topic. <andlabs>
oh my god
<andlabs>
I can't even download the right version of RAZE anymore
<andlabs>
in fact, no version was ever backed up on the internet archive
<andlabs>
okazaki's EMU2413 is also a no-go but I think libkss has it already
<andlabs>
fmgen/m88 is also gone
<andlabs>
let's see if those two are on archive.org though
<andlabs>
also the version of RAZE on zophar.net has a version number of 2.21 somehow despite development stopping at 1.06
<andlabs>
archive.org did not save fmgen either
<andlabs>
oh lol
<andlabs>
libkss is by the same guy
<andlabs>
just changed the name from PC Sound Antiques to Digital Sound Antiques
<Lord_Nightmare>
now open it in binxelview, set bpp to 1, width to 2048, height to 16, little endian checked
<Lord_Nightmare>
and you can scroll sideways through the font using the 'byte' offset in the upper left
<Lord_Nightmare>
its 256 characters, codepage 437
<Lord_Nightmare>
why the characters have a stride of 2048 for every character line, i don't know. its an odd way to lay out a chatracter rom, but i could see why it would be done, in theory
<Lord_Nightmare>
font is 8x16
<Lord_Nightmare>
looks fairly unique too, i can't say i've seen this one before
<balrog>
[10:36:48] <ajrhacker>I've been looking at a lot of synthesizer schematics lately. The Yamaha DX-5 surprised me in that none of its three XTAL values are currently defined in xtal.cpp. The dump of that which I've seen is missing both slave CPU ROMs, alas.
<balrog>
anyone has a DX-5?

<Lord_Nightmare>
balrog: there were only about 500 DX-5's made, it was the deluxe woodgrain dx-7 with effectively two monophonic voices and a keyboard split
<Lord_Nightmare>
i think it has two ops/egs pairs
<Lord_Nightmare>
they're very rare

<ValleyBell>
andlabs: Hoot is weird. It still gets updated very regularly.
<ValleyBell>
It's just the ancient source code archive.
<ValleyBell>
So Hoot is effectively closed-source now.
