ChanServ changed the topic of ##yamahasynths to: Channel dedicated to questions and discussion of Yamaha FM Synthesizer internals and corresponding REing. Discussion of synthesis methods similar to the Yamaha line of chips, Sound Blasters + clones, PCM chips like RF5C68, and CD theory of operation are also on-topic. Pietro Gagliardi, [20.03.20 00:07] amazing
<andlabs>
Pietro Gagliardi, [20.03.20 00:07] I can get eComStation 2 very easily, either legally or illegally
<andlabs>
Pietro Gagliardi, [20.03.20 00:07] but I can't get 1.2 anymore, whether legally or even illegally
<andlabs>
Pietro Gagliardi, [20.03.20 00:08] the legal routes simply no longer sell it, and the one and only torrent on the pirate bay has had zero seeders for a solid decade, and I've already loaded it up with 181 trackers, none of which help
<andlabs>
Pietro Gagliardi, [20.03.20 00:08] does anyone here happen to have the file somehow (ecs12mr_cd1_en.zip/.iso)
<andlabs>
(also before anyone suggests it, it's considered too new for winworldpc)
<cr1901_modern>
Try vetusware (I'm not responsible for any malware you get from that website)?
<KitsuWhooa>
I think I found it, but it looks to be russian :p
<KitsuWhooa>
at least I think that's what "Rus" stands for, anyway
<andlabs>
lol

I think I may have found a store still selling it, but I have purchasing priorities so it's going to have to wait
<whitequark>
ej5: ohhhh so amiga does what i would do if i was making a floppy drive controller :D
<whitequark>
the whole "rewrite the sector real quick after reaing the header" business always struck me as kind of sketchy. i'm sure they had their reasons, but
<whitequark>
andlabs: unfortunately they aren't in mass production but a bunch of people make small batches. i'll try to connect you with someone
<whitequark>
asking on twitter tends to work well too :p
<Lord_Nightmare>
ej5: you have an hx-20!??
<Lord_Nightmare>
you gonna mod it to use a lithium ion battery (and bypass the old stupid charge circuit?)
<Lord_Nightmare>
i heard from someone who modded one (with a 3d printed replacement back cover and a usb-micro? port to charge it) that it gets massive battery life
<andlabs>
also this just makes me revive my question I've always wondered
<andlabs>
what was the first laptop **as we know them today**
<andlabs>
sure as hell isn't that thing
<andlabs>
and not counting the macintosh portable or those early tandy portable XT clones that only had the front part of the hachine lift up to expose the screen and keyboard but had a stationary back part
<whitequark>
andlabs: where you can get a glasgow
<andlabs>
oh
<andlabs>
wait I'm now confused, isn't glasgow your open source project? and I was asking what hardware I would need to actually make use of it
<whitequark>
ohhhh
<whitequark>
like in addition to a glasgow board and a floppy?
<andlabs>
so yeah I still am confused as to what constitutes glasgow
<andlabs>
or what you have to do with it
<whitequark>
i lead the project. the project consists of software and hardware
<whitequark>
the hardware is basically an FPGA, some level shifters, and some logic so it can talk over USB
<andlabs>
yeah do point me in the appropriate directions then, thanks
<andlabs>
I'm going to bed for nowt hough
<whitequark>
it's a single IDC cable crimped in a special way. that's it. everything else is on board alreay
<andlabs>
ah yes, that thing
<whitequark>
or you could just use jumper cables if you wanted
<andlabs>
the amiga specific thing Lord_Nightmare linked earlier specifically has in its instructions "cut that wire so it isn't twisted"
<andlabs>
still doesn't help me with the question of "what floppy drive is best" though, which is what I was asking about both that and the flux engine
<andlabs>
but again, need ot sleep now
<andlabs>
feel free to /query things
<whitequark>
according to ej5 any PC floppy will do
<whitequark>
(which is also my understanding)
<whitequark>
good night
<andlabs>
well yes I figured that; I meant recommendations / known working models =P
<andlabs>
thanks in the meantime though
<whitequark>
I'd have to actually test things on a real floppy
<whitequark>
but from past experience I don't think it matters a whole lot
