ChanServ changed the topic of ##yamahasynths to: Channel dedicated to questions and discussion of Yamaha FM Synthesizer internals and corresponding REing. Discussion of synthesis methods similar to the Yamaha line of chips, Sound Blasters + clones, PCM chips like RF5C68, and CD theory of operation are also on-topic. Channel logs: https://freenode.irclog.whitequark.org/~h~yamahasynths
<andlabs> hmm
<andlabs> I also now wonder if I can somehow do disk rips with the internal drive on the amiga and some software
<andlabs> that would be super convenient, since I would rather avoid kryoflux
<andlabs> but we can worry about that... when I actually get mine
<andlabs> does anyone have any recommendations for a good storage crate for 3.5" and 5.25" disks (separately, not together)? before I just choose some random ones
<Lord_Nightmare> foone_: https://nc.rysk.us/s/ZEfJgct8BGwxfCo
<Lord_Nightmare> font from the SDS-VDB8024 terminal
<Lord_Nightmare> like a televideo font it uses bit 0 to indicate a descender
<Foone_> neat!
<Lord_Nightmare> so each 8x8 character is technically drawn in an 8x16 cell
<Lord_Nightmare> if bit 0 is set that line is drawn in the bottom cell half
<Lord_Nightmare> otherwise in the top half
<Lord_Nightmare> i'm not sure if the cells are actually the full 8x16 tall
<Lord_Nightmare> they may only be 8x14 or something
<Lord_Nightmare> or even 8x10
<Lord_Nightmare> also note i typed that by hand from http://www.s100computers.com/Hardware%20Manuals/SD%20Systems/SDS-VDB8024.pdf and may have typoed some stuff
<Lord_Nightmare> theres a listing at the end
<Lord_Nightmare> i was trying to find out if that's the true source of the wargames font
<Lord_Nightmare> its not
<Lord_Nightmare> the font doesn't match
<Lord_Nightmare> and yeah its only a technically 7x10 cell
<Lord_Nightmare> i think the 8th/rightmost row is always blank
<Lord_Nightmare> er
<Lord_Nightmare> column
<Lord_Nightmare> probably using a decade 0-9 counter to select row to be drawn
<Lord_Nightmare> with bits 0-3 going to the character ROM row address select, and the output of d0 going to something that compares against the high row bit to choose whether it gets drawn or not
<andlabs> does anyone have any recommendations for a good storage crate for 3.5" and 5.25" disks (separately, not together)? before I just choose some random ones
<andlabs> love how none of the ones I can find on amazon (how few there are) have like 5 reviews tops
<andlabs> *how all of the ones

<cr1901_modern> ej5: >instead of endlessly RTing
<cr1901_modern> Could you just @ me next time :P? (I've been taking a break from projects the past few days. Not sick, thankfully, but just need to recover energy.)
<ej5> gotta start tweeting out projects ;)
<cr1901_modern> Oh, I meant "just @ me next time to call me out for RTing" ;)
<cr1901_modern> I know damn well I do it too much
<cr1901_modern> Re: projects, announcing them too early is a good way for me to not get them done, so I'm more careful about that now.
<ej5> don't think of it as an announcement, think of it as a process
<ej5> technically i do both, usually a progress thread and if it's a thing i'm releasing, a separate announcement thread
<ej5> if it never works, then there's no announcement thread. but then people have a fun progress thread to point and laugh at
<cr1901_modern> Hmmm, that's a good point
<cr1901_modern> perhaps I should use the quarantine to start getting parts to build my Spark Duster
