2017/03/23 02:13:51 pushed b237686489f97f2d7900bc5a0a7972dee7294b50 to ipfs/interface-ipfs-core
<tidux>
daviddias: how close is this to being able to include ipfs support in a Browser via jfs-ipfs and a userscript or extension?
<lgierth>
tidux: victorbjelkholm had a prototype of that
<daviddias>
tidux: tl;dr - for a complete 'magical' experience where users do not have to care about networking at all, the only pieces missing are relay and DHT, which are being heavily worked on
<daviddias>
that being said, a lot of things can be done today by using js-ipfs as a module, a script tag or even in one of the browser extensions experiments
<lgierth>
it would be awesome if someone had a look at that webextension ^ and see what's missing, and bring it into shape

Hi ya, how do I delete content locally? I'm failing to find a command for it in `ipfs help`. Also tried using the web gui, but when I'm in the Files section and press X next to the hash I want to remove I'm just redirected to the Home section and nothing happens.
<victorbjelkholm>
inetic: "ipfs pin rm :hash" and then "ipfs repo gc"
drathir has quit [Ping timeout: 246 seconds]
<inetic>
victorbjelkholm: aha, thanks, that works. And how do I get the list as is in the Files section of the web gui? I tried `ipfs refs local` but that lists everything and I would like just the top level hashes.
<victorbjelkholm>
inetic: hm, that I'm unsure of... I seem to remember that the webui is using the Files API

Hi all :) Any idea why the `ipfs dht findpeer <my_own_peerID>` doesn't reply anything? When running locally on my own machine

<KheOps>
Well I'm guessing this is not really of any interest, in the end, for a question
<KheOps>
Nevermind :)
<victorbjelkholm>
KheOps: if there is no one providing that content, no output would be there
<victorbjelkholm>
make sure you're actually connected to other peers with `ipfs swarm peers`
<victorbjelkholm>
oh, sorry, read `ipfs dht findprovs`, not findpeer...
<victorbjelkholm>
KheOps: seems to simply be that findpeer doesn't work with your own local peer ID, you might want to open a issue on ipfs/go-ipfs on Github unless there is a issue already for it
<KheOps>
Said anohter way, I'm looking for a working example of a "service" over IPFS that works for direct exchange of messages between two peers; I'm guessing thanks to the use of orenet.Listen() as in this example above. Anyone knows of any such service existing?

I'm currently running the host prat, providing the serce. The only chang I made was the import for context, I changed "code.google.com..../context" to just "context". It seems I wasn't able to get it to work with the "code.google.com.."
<KheOps>
oh my god, sory for the typos
<KheOps>
I'm currently running the host part, providing the service
<KheOps>
whyrusleeping: OK, forget it, I got it to work when runing the server on my more normal box
<whyrusleeping>
heh, okay
<whyrusleeping>
was probably just weird NAT issues on your main box
<KheOps>
It's just my NAT/Tor mixture that is likely very confusing
<KheOps>
It might be that because of my HTTP_PROXY variables set locally, some connections outgoing from the local IPFS daemon end up detecting me as having Tor exit nodes for public IP address
<whyrusleeping>
NAT traversal is hard
<KheOps>
Yes :) Sorry for bugging you, thank you for your help!
<KheOps>
It's a very good news to be able to transmit arbitrary messages through IPFS

bit outdated since it was a while I needed to link many modules together
<dryajov>
victorbjelkholm: thanks! i’ll check that out…
<victorbjelkholm>
be warned though, since after pulling down all deps, the monorepo will contain like 6GB of deps
<victorbjelkholm>
node/npm hurrah
<dryajov>
LOL…
<whyrusleeping>
monorepo?
<dryajov>
I wonder if yarn makes it a tiny bit better
<whyrusleeping>
what is a monorepo for?
<dryajov>
well… not really, just a bunch of git modules managed with lerna or something else… cause its a paing to upda 100000 packaes to release something :)
<dryajov>
s/upda/update/
<dryajov>
btw… I’m not a fan of multirepos, but some sane way of managing multiple related repos/packages is required when you have more than 10 modules...
<dryajov>
s/multirepos/monorepos/, dang… i’m on a roll today :D
