@dignifiedquire - when I run ipfs.config.get((err, config) => {}) it gives me an error "SyntaxError: JSON.parse: unexpected non-whitespace character...". I think I might have screwed the config file up. How can I fix?
<engdesart->
Try deleting the ~/.ipfs directory, then run "ipfs init" again.
<lindybrits>
@engdestart I did it, did not seem to help

You should be able to uninstall it and its dependencies, but this sounds like something else. Mabe whyrusleeping or Kubuxu or one of the other devs can help?

@daviddias are you in the house? :)
<voker57>
lindybrits, why do you want to start the node over?
<voker57>
also what version of ipfs are you using?
<Stskeeps>
ah, now
<Stskeeps>
:P
<Stskeeps>
err.. ignore me
<lindybrits>
I did something strange. In the web front via including https://unpkg.com/ipfs/dist/index.js, I made a repo in javascript and ran ipfs.config.get(). I ran a ipfs.config.set() that clearly wasn't correct. Afterward I couldn't use ipfs.config.get() to get my configuration
<lindybrits>
@voker57 running 0.4.6
<voker57>
try looking at your ~/.ipfs/config and checking if something is wrong with it
<voker57>
you said deleting ~/.ipfs does not help, does it leave ipfs still not usable with traditional methods or just doesn't fix your 'strange' approach?
<lindybrits>
it still works when running in the console. I can call "ipfs config show", for instance
<lindybrits>
if you create a repo via ipfs-js, where does it sit on the server?
<lindybrits>
it feels like I might have two repos or something, one I created via go-ipfs and one via ipfs-js. is that possible @voker57? I am deleting and doing an "ipfs init" via go-ipfs, which does not solve my ipfs-js problem
<daviddias>
lindybrits: I'm here :)
<daviddias>
when you do jsipfs init
<daviddias>
it creates a ~/.jsipfs
<daviddias>
and when you do ipfs init
<daviddias>
it creates a ~/.ipfs
<lindybrits>
hi @daviddias!
<lindybrits>
I included https://unpkg.com/ipfs/dist/index.js and made a variable ipfs = new Ipfs(). at some point it created a repo that already exists, it tells me so in the console. however, I screwed it up somehow by using ipfs.config.set(). afterward it gives me this problem ->
<lindybrits>
@daviddias hmmmm... I will quickly have a look and ping you
<lindybrits>
what browser do you use?

@daviddias - I found the indexeddb and deleted everything, it works now. missing fundamentals again...
<daviddias>
what are the "fundamentals"?
<daviddias>
I use mostly Chrome and Firefox
<daviddias>
but from time to time I test things with Safari as well
<lindybrits>
the fact that my IPFS stuff sits in the brower itself
<lindybrits>
I assume I'll still be able to request an uploaded/hashed file from the browser?
<daviddias>
absolutely
<lindybrits>
to be clear - request a file uploaded in the browser in a node.js application on another server?
<lindybrits>
thanks @daviddias! I'll test obtaining a file uploaded in a browser on one server, by trying to access it in a node.js application on another...
<daviddias>
yes, it is meant to be the full IPFS protocol, in the browser, so expectations remain fulfilled
<lindybrits>
if I can do that, I have moved forward :)
<daviddias>
with the caveat that until we have the thing known as DHT (end of the month should be there), you need to establish the connection yourself

running ipfs (latest version from the arch linux repositories) on my home server seems to make my fritzbox router eventually disconnect from the internet (i noticed this phenomenon occasionally with p2p software before in recent years), and i have to restart it

When starting ipfs, there is lot of disk io, not sure where is that coming from. A way to debug that? Or if someone knows.
<fhs[m]>
maybe run it with strace?
<A124>
Yeah, that might be good idea. It seems it's hashing all the date during startup or so.
<A124>
Any advice to quickly merge pull requests? In way I want to build ipfs with change to dependency, which is PRed but not merged.
<A124>
To be honest I am not sure how one should manage the dependencies and update them everywhere and the development process with gx. If there is any writeup I missed, please point me to it.
