<2667273151> So the right attitude is, hold BTC and Dollars, pay attention to STR with mouth and eyes only. Don't need to hold one XLM, because this system need only ideals and expectations.
<stellar-slack1>
<sacarlson> 2667273151: it's not for spectulators. for a currency we want stability not a fast changing comodity

<sacarlson> if you want to speculate buy rice and guns
<stellar-slack1>
<dzham> @lab: stargazer isn’t upgraded to stellar-core, so I’d leave it out
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> i'm sorry for it.
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> i'm getting more and more bad smell of a failure community.
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> the majority of developer in community had been "know how and build fast" in the first months, then degraded to "know how and build slow" in the last year, and is degrading to "learning how".

<stellar-slack1>
<dzham> I don’t know.. I’m taking a time out ATM. I’ve basically signed on as CTO for two companies outside of crypto, so the amount of time I have for this is very limited
<stellar-slack1>
<joyce> lab, I would say that is a sign of active progress because it means we are attracting developers who are new to the digital currency space entirely
<stellar-slack1>
<joyce> for ideas to spread, they need to consistently be reaching new people who are “learning” rather than staying within groups that are already quite familiar
<stellar-slack1>
<joyce> how many devs know HTML now vs 15 years ago
<stellar-slack1>
<joyce> in the early days, you want as many people "learning how” until a technology is ubiquitous. and we hope to have many many more people starting to learn for the rest of 2016
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> i'd like to agree the existing crypto community is quite limited and new big opportunity is attracting new ppl outside of crypto.
<stellar-slack1>
<joyce> it is exciting times:)
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> but i'd like to know the deduction process of marketing strategy of training new devs much prior than leveraging community to average level in first class of crypto (by coinmarketcap).
<stellar-slack1>
<joyce> I dont think i follow your question. I am not sure what you mean by "leveraging community to average level in first class of crypto (by coinmarketcap)."
<stellar-slack1>
<joyce> As for the first point, we are an educational and financial inclusion nonprofit so one of our main goals is the education of as many communities as possible about financial inclusion tools, including developers
<stellar-slack1>
<joyce> Education has and always will be one of our main focuses
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> stellar is 10th in coinmarketcap now, and
<stellar-slack1>
<joyce> Coinmarketcap rankings are not something I look at.
<stellar-slack1>
<joyce> I am more concerned about good use cases and projects that have a tangible impact on people’s lives
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> if you google "xxx blockchain explorer" (xxx is any one in top 10 in coinmarketcap)
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> first class in my idea is first class of crypto
<stellar-slack1>
<joyce> I know what it is - I’m just saying it us not something that I find critical to what http://Stellar.org|Stellar.org works on.
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> first class is top 10
<stellar-slack1>
<joyce> For me, my measurement for impact or importance is if it is being used to help people have more financial tools in their lives
<stellar-slack1>
<joyce> I hope that sheds some light on your question?
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> where is the competitiveness of stellar to being people's financial tools?
<stellar-slack1>
<joyce> what do you mean competitiveness?
<stellar-slack1>
<joyce> Do you mean relevance?
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> isn't good use case emerging from community?
<stellar-slack1>
<joyce> Yes, we are seeing a lot of really interesting use cases coming from Nigeria for example. Ones that are both meaningful and can have huge impact because of the size of Nigeria and the size of the problem. For example, some women we interviewed there will spend 100 naira in fees ($0.30) to send 500 naira ($1.75) to their children and a product built on Stellar can lower that fee significantly
<stellar-slack1>
<dzham> That *should* make it a lot easier for all the Nigerian princes to get money out of the country too. At least, they won’t have to ask for thousands of USD in help to pay for transaction fees. ;)
<stellar-slack1>
<joyce> dzham, that is a stereotype that has huge negative effects on all the good folks in Nigeria and their economic lives. there are devs there that have to go through so much trouble to get a web server so they can do their work
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> what is the upside of stellar network than additional sql table in Oradian for transferring money between MFIs?
<stellar-slack1>
<joyce> I hope we get to the point when people start trying to learn about the realities of Nigeria rather than always pointing to bad stereotypes. every country and every people have negative stereotypes about them that do a disservice to their communities.
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> I did some investigation on rural MFIs ecosystem in china in spring festival vacation.
<stellar-slack1>
<joyce> The MFIs in the Oradian network are primarily in rural areas that are very underserved and low income. being connected to the Stellar network gives those communities the ability to send money at far lower costs, and faster so they dont have to spend a day traveling to the nearest bank branch to do a single transfer
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> from both internet and field
<stellar-slack1>
<joyce> Oh cool, I don’t know much about MFIs in China
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> and i'm quite confused how to introduce discentralized network to the ecosysyem
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> IMHO
<stellar-slack1>
<joyce> I’m not sure how it works in China, but in Nigeria there are hundreds of MFIs in rural villages all over. Some use software, some do not. But the ones that do can connect to Stellar. And then, they are able to transact with each other in a way that was not possible before.
<stellar-slack1>
<joyce> And decentralized and distributed here is key to keeping costs low, therefore affordable to these communities
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> are they clearing by XLM or NGN?
<stellar-slack1>
<joyce> NGN
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> IMHO,the obvious upside of stellar(or any blockchain technology) is low-cost for micro and crossborder transactions
<stellar-slack1>
<joyce> Most of the MFI transactions would qualify as microtransactions but I dont particularly use that word because what is micro? It all depends on one’s country’s cost of living
<stellar-slack1>
<joyce> a $5 transaction is micro here but big elsewhere
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> but a centralized clearing by software provide is as low cost as stellar, and the rural financial has much lesser requirement of cross boarder transaction.
<stellar-slack1>
<dzham> @joyce: I know it’s a stereotype. Did you notice the wink? I get stereotyped every day. My in-laws here in .ph think I’m a bloody ATM. I’ve paid more than $15K USD in medical expenses because they’re too lazy to get insurance. I made $3K last year, from working on Stellar projects.
<stellar-slack1>
<joyce> There is no centralized software provider that is low cost in Nigeria. Its all about 100 naira fee per transaction is what we are told.
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> micro is defined by the ratio of fee over transferred money, universally.
<stellar-slack1>
<joyce> dzham, didnt see the wink, sorry. i just tend to not bring up the stereotypes in general
<stellar-slack1>
<joyce> So if i send a $100 wire and pay $40 fee, is that micro?
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> yes
<stellar-slack1>
<joyce> My understanding of micro is that it means something around (although not specifically) under $10 or something
<stellar-slack1>
<joyce> Ok guys, i need to turn in. everyone have a good night!
<stellar-slack1>
<joyce> Or good morning depending on where you are
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> i just got a bad feeling that stellar is acting as they got a killer app of discentralized ledger, which is strong enough to abandon pre-era community. it really scaring me.
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> good night and thanks for talking about the topic.

<danielpauljones> Thanks to @sacarlson @jes @lab for the wallet information. We are reviewing and will be implementing one soon. As always thanks to @joyce and @jeb and the entire Stellar team. From our perspective and with over 25 years of experience in the developing world and technology, this is truly a new paradigm that will change banking and all social functioning.
