<stellar-slack1>
<chretienmn> hey guys, found out recently about stellar. I was wondering if there is any company using it for credit card/ACH processing (payment processor like stripe etc)
<stellar-slack1>
<sacarlson> http://equid.co|equid.co has plans to do so
<stellar-slack1>
<chretienmn> @sacarlson: cool. thanks. Where can I find docs to do so? I'm still trying to figure out how that would work
<stellar-slack1>
<sacarlson> for a store?
<stellar-slack1>
<chretienmn> I mean for a payment processor that integrates with banks (like stripe really)
<stellar-slack1>
<sacarlson> ok well there is little difference in some ways for a bank or a store. stellar released a big part of it just a short time back with a gateway package that can be seen on github
<stellar-slack1>
<sacarlson> seeing as a store basicly just skips the bank and gets there money direct to the network
<stellar-slack1>
<chretienmn> so no existing credit card gateway so far? and if so why?
<stellar-slack1>
<sacarlson> I was working on a plugin for woocomerce to use stellar as a payment system much the same as braintree
<stellar-slack1>
<sacarlson> I think the lack of direct credit card to stellar network is two fold. one is regulation that require too much crap if involved with money on cards or banks
<stellar-slack1>
<sacarlson> the other is there just hasn't been enuf time to develop the software to do so yet on this new system
<stellar-slack1>
<chretienmn> yeah makes sense. Would you say that the main advantage for the consumer would be reduced transfer costs & better currency conversion rates (for cc transactions) ?
<stellar-slack1>
<chretienmn> I guess stellar handles international transactions as well as ripple
<stellar-slack1>
<sacarlson> well it will be that and also more secure and with more features including uncentralized escrow system
<stellar-slack1>
<sacarlson> it basicly is ripple in the next generation
<stellar-slack1>
<chretienmn> I see. What were the main challenges you encountered while building that plugin, if you don't mind me asking?
<stellar-slack1>
<sacarlson> well the list is very long and involved. part being that I got involved with parts of the project that I thought would be done by others that at the time I never worked with before
<stellar-slack1>
<sacarlson> the other was the mix of multi languages in development including javascript and php. and with no php support at the time I had to work on a bridge for that also
<stellar-slack1>
<chretienmn> alright I guess I know what to expect now lol
<stellar-slack1>
<chretienmn> many thanks for those insights
<stellar-slack1>
<chretienmn> will probably start with a bank gateway integration in the near future and see how it goes
<stellar-slack1>
<sacarlson> play with the gateway link. that was a big part of the project that didn't exist when I was working on ours. it's much better and better documented than mine was
<stellar-slack1>
<chretienmn> great :)
<stellar-slack1>
<sacarlson> I think that server will also bridge the php gap as you can perform the needed tasks with restclient from most any language
<stellar-slack1>
<chretienmn> cool. it's been years since the last time I touched php
<stellar-slack1>
<sacarlson> well use the language you prefer, ruby, js, python....
<stellar-slack1>
<sacarlson> I just used it due to woocomerce being a big part of the project
<stellar-slack1>
<chretienmn> So basically the main way to avoid latency would be to run it's own stellar-core node first right?
<stellar-slack1>
<chretienmn> and while running it, we have to take care of scaling our own postgresql cluster?
<stellar-slack1>
<sacarlson> no to start just use the testnet
<stellar-slack1>
<sacarlson> you can scale up later after your sofware is developed
<stellar-slack1>
<sacarlson> testnet is still very fast at less than 10 sec max per transaction
<stellar-slack1>
<sacarlson> you can also later use stellar live network that is also still very fast
<stellar-slack1>
<sacarlson> but I guess you will still be required to have your own postgresql that as you say, you will have to scale
<stellar-slack1>
<chretienmn> ok
<stellar-slack1>
<sacarlson> I'm looking at this http://www.cyclos.org/products/ that has an opensource bank that maybe you could build on
<stellar-slack1>
<sacarlson> it's best to find something close to what you need and build on to it, rather than start from scratch
<stellar-slack1>
<chretienmn> for sure
<stellar-slack1>
<chretienmn> thanks
<stellar-slack1>
<chretienmn> so no mysql with stellar? only postgresql?
<stellar-slack1>
<sacarlson> I use sqlite
<stellar-slack1>
<sacarlson> but yes I don't think they support mysql, but not really much difference
<stellar-slack1>
<chretienmn> so it could run on google cloud sql for instance?
<stellar-slack1>
<chretienmn> no need to worry about scaling it in that case lol
<stellar-slack1>
<sacarlson> I don't know anything about google cloud but I recomend something like https://www.digitalocean.com/ that we use that runs as little as $5 per month
<stellar-slack1>
<sacarlson> and can scale to any size you want
<stellar-slack1>
<sacarlson> very stable
<stellar-slack1>
<sacarlson> with that you can run your entire operation and scale it when needed
<stellar-slack1>
<sacarlson> this will later also run your stellar-core and your federation server and much more
<stellar-slack1>
<chretienmn> ok I guess it's equivalent then. google could sql auto scales. nothing to do. same as google datastore (for key-value dbs)
<stellar-slack1>
<chretienmn> 've been using both for a while and really like em
<stellar-slack1>
<sacarlson> that sounds cool, this won't auto scale as far as I know, but it starts at like 10GB that will be enuf for a small bank or store for some time
<stellar-slack1>
<chretienmn> and google servers are PCI compliant as well
<stellar-slack1>
<sacarlson> I don't even know what PCI complient is
<stellar-slack1>
<chretienmn> well in the case of building app that interacts with a bank or banking data, pci compliance is required
<paroneayea>
the package is very close to being merged upstream in guix, but knowing that would be helpful

<2667273151> These days I thought for a very interesting thing. Why the xlm price falls, the people here don't worry about. 1.SDF can sell Xlm at any time, no matter what price to sell it, don't worry about it. 2.Some people only talk about ideal,Talk about the future. 3.Also some people getting the chance to get free. Maybe we are all fools at the last.Speculators lost principal . Idealism lost his enthusiasm. Cheat th

<sacarlson> 2667273151: I guess you don't realize that Lumens (XLM) is only on single asset in the Stellar system that can have an infinite number of assets traded within it. We only need concern our self to have enuf Lumens to trade (transaction cost) with. and with a very small amount you can collect interest to pay for all the tx you need

<danielpauljones> Is there a general list of Stellar wallets that have been developed?
