I'm mainly after things like: 1. which github repo and branch is the right one for my device (I think I've found it, but I'd like to be certain).
<lichtblau>
2. what's up with the initramfs; I've copied those files over some script I've found, doing it like that doesn't inspire confidence.
<codeworkx>
lichtblau: what are you talking about? device? cm? stock?
<lichtblau>
and 3. well, what else am I missing... There must be something, since some samsung video driver doesn't build...
<lichtblau>
well, I've got a recent cm9 nightly on a galaxy s2. All I want at this point is to rebuild that same kernel using CONFIG_USB_SERIAL=y -- that can't break that much, I'd hope
<codeworkx>

<lichtblau>
While I didn't use those exact instructions (I started with some build.sh script that set did various of those steps semi-automatically for me), I think I've got the whole ~/android/system tree set up as described on that wiki page.
<lichtblau>
And I got a zImage (without building all the rest of system, BTW), which I installed to the device successfully. So that's all nice and well, but I evidently couldn't figure out which .config those scripts use, since the newly built kernel still doesn't have the right features I want.
<lichtblau>
... and that's why I'm here asking for actual kernel building instructions

Since I'm asking dumb questions anyway, let me proceed to the next one! I'd love to use various devices using USB on-the-go. Is anyone here familiar with OTG questions with cm9 on the s2?
<lichtblau>
Given that the phone can mount USB storage sticks attached to an OTG cable just fine, I suppose that the USB host controller support must be somewhat functional. But: I can't find a single USB device -- other than USB-storage -- that would even turn up in lsusb.
<codeworkx>

N7000: Samsung fucked up by hardcoding CROSS_COMPILE in the Makefile, AGAIN
<Entropy512>
why the fuck don't they just use the defconfig like they're supposed to?
<Ingram>
they are rebels
<Jiangyi>
Entropy512: And thus, I bought the I9100G a few months ago. I knew that OMAP would get CM9, but probably not Qualcomm.
* Dragooon
is gonna buy and try DSLR controller on an experimental kernel...

codeworkx: This may sound noob, but the kernel you built from sources does work with the stock ROM right?
romann is now known as romann|afk
<codeworkx>
Jiangyi: the clockworkmod kernel
<Jiangyi>
codeworkx: Yeah. ICS - 5.5.0.4 (built from sources)
<codeworkx>
that for stock only
<Jiangyi>
codeworkx: I'm just asking because some people are saying they get a could not mount /sdcard error when they go in.
<codeworkx>
maybe they've no external card?
<codeworkx>
how about "choose zip from internal card" ?
<Jiangyi>
Same error.
<Jiangyi>
Codeworkx: Come to think of it, I've got a lot of people like that on my root tutorial thread too.

<codeworkx>
Jiangyi: this has to work
<Jiangyi>
codeworkx: Well, I don't know then..... I know that I've never encountered this.
<codeworkx>
Jiangyi: users are having bugs where are no
<codeworkx>
Jiangyi: mostly the problem is holding the device
<Jiangyi>
codeworkx: .... O_O
<Jiangyi>
codeworkx: Hmm.... I just found a couple of people who flashed the kernel after flashing CM9 and bricked..... No one ever reads the tutorials completely anymore...........
<codeworkx>
lol
<codeworkx>
"This is a kernel including ClockworkMod Recovery for use on Samsung roms."
<codeworkx>
-.-
<codeworkx>
what don't they understand?
<codeworkx>
ok... in red
<codeworkx>
This is a kernel including ClockworkMod Recovery for use on Samsung roms.
<codeworkx>
Don't use this kernel on aosp based roms like CyanogenMod!!!
<Jiangyi>
codeworkx: I didn't write that exactly, I just said for people on Stock ICS :-P

Umm....... I'm guessing I just asked a really derp question eh?
<codeworkx>
Jiangyi: a crappy cheap nokia is able to do that
<codeworkx>
Jiangyi: if a android device is off, the it's off
<Jiangyi>
codeworkx: What I was thinking is if a cheap Nokia can do that, then why can't our Android do? :P

a cheap nokia is no complex computer
<codeworkx>
it's a calculator
<Jiangyi>
codeworkx: Fair enough. :P
<Jiangyi>
codeworkx: One very little thing I've noticed: In the phone app, the buttons have a slight delay to them, making it hard to dial a number really fast.
<Jiangyi>
codeworkx: So it's going to be called 20120602? I can see people getting confused about that and your 20120602C build already......
<codeworkx>
:-D
<codeworkx>
it will not appear on get.cm
<Jiangyi>
Why not?
<codeworkx>
download server is fuct
<Jiangyi>
codeworkx: Wait, so how exactly is it going to be 600MB?
<codeworkx>
300mb eu and 300mb chn
<Jiangyi>
codeworkx: And the 120MB CWM....... Sighs.
<codeworkx>
i'm just uploading the odins
<codeworkx>
