<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <Ecko> so what is the current status? #armbian will stay on freenode or move completely to libera?
<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <Ecko> (or maybe another network0
<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <RoyK> Ecko: I don't think anything is decided - I guess there'll be a lot of fuss about the hostile takeover of freenode
<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <RoyK> so far, I'm content with using libera
<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <Ecko> yeah same, it's pretty comfy here
<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <Xogium> same
<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <Xogium> anything is better off than staying on freenode
<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <DarthGandalf> I doubt about "anything"

<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <Xogium> I meant anything in term of irc
<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <RoyK> undernet?
<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <Xogium> that thing still exist ?
<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <patrix> EFnet?
<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <RoyK> IRCnet?
<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <RoyK> There are worse places than freenode, but this is hopefully a wee bit better
<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <Xogium> well aside from all of those, I think there'd only be oftc and libera ? Not sure tbh
<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <RoyK> oftc seems sane
<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <Xogium> yea, for the most part but they're still packing things like ircv3, no sasl, uses cert fp only which is horrible to setup imo especially for newbies
<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <Xogium> and also now you have to verify your registered nick using some kind of web form and a chaptcha challenge
<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <Xogium> I meant lacking sorry
<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <Xogium> and captcha ;)
<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <Xogium> or at least it was that way the last time I wanted to register a nick
<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <Xogium> I kind of gave up on it tbh
<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <RoyK> Xogium: I talked to some of the admins and they were planning to open the network in a week or two and then the hammer fell down
<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <Xogium> yeah
<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <RoyK> s/fell/came/
<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <RoyK> whatever
<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <Xogium> they were given barely an hour to get their stuff together and forced to resign along with deletion of their data and etc
<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <Xogium> I checked some logs that were published and honestly the guy seems pretty evasive, doesn't answer 90% of the questions they ask
<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <Xogium> and saying things that just don't add up like, he's the only owner of freenode ltd, claims to have put millions into it, but then refuses to explain where the money went, claiming that it was sent to the staff but then refusing to show proof of this
<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <Xogium> so yeah this does smell bad
<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <DarthGandalf> Xogium: they don't have any audio version of the captcha?
<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <Xogium> hmmm actually, I can't remember if they did
<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <Xogium> its been a while I tried
<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <Xogium> I seem to recall having to go and ask around for help in the #oftc channel because of the verification being a pain in the

<Peter82> Dear Community, may be some of you may help:
<Peter82> I am goning to use a fresh Image of Armbian_21.05.1_Orangepizero_buster_current_5.10.34
<Peter82> for my new Orange Pi Zero (with Allwinner H2+ SoC)
<Peter82> I am trying to use/active SPI1. This is the only "available" SPI throughout the Pin-Header
<Peter82> I added
<Peter82> overlays=spi-spidev usbhost2 usbhost3
<Peter82> param_spidev_spi_bus=1
<Peter82> to the armbianEnv.txt
<Peter82> I get (dmesg):
<Peter82> peter@orangepizero:~$ sudo dmesg | grep spi
<Peter82> [    3.164438] sun6i-spi 1c69000.spi: chipselect 0 already in use
<Peter82> [    3.164475] spi_master spi1: spi_device register error /soc/spi@1c69000/spidev@0
<Peter82> [    3.164509] spi_master spi1: Failed to create SPI device for /soc/spi@1c69000/spidev@0
<Peter82> [   11.915382] mcp251x spi1.0: MCP251x didn't enter in conf mode after reset
<Peter82> [   11.915464] mcp251x spi1.0: Probe failed, err=110
<Peter82> [   11.915571] mcp251x: probe of spi1.0 failed with error -110
<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <stipa> Peter82 , there's no support for it yet, your soc is not listed here yet https://linux-sunxi.org/Linux_mainlining_effort
<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <stipa> it's very new
<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <[TheBug]> huh
<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <[TheBug]> it's just a H3
<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <[TheBug]> the correct place to ask that though will be #linux-sunxi though
<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <[TheBug]> if there is some error
<[TheBug]> also
<[TheBug]> did you enable spi in the DTB ?
<[TheBug]> looks like you told it to load the driver but didn't enable it in DTB?
<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <stipa> H2+ is a variant of H3, targeted at low-end OTT boxes, which lacks Gigabit MAC and 4K HDMI output support.
<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <stipa> H3 images are proven to run on H2+.
<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <stipa> yeah, [TheBug] is right
<Peter82> Thank you
<Peter82> Yes H2+ is basically equal to H3
<Peter82> @[TheBug]: I thought by adding spi-spidev to the armbianEnv.txt the respectiv Spi "component" is activated...
<Peter82> If not so, how do I enable it?
<[TheBug]> I mean all I have is all the dumb questions at the moment, like, which image are you running, is it specifically one compiled for that board? If not, if you are using a generic image then it could be that DTB still isn't correct or is lacking that info
<[TheBug]> looks to describe a similar issue and a solution
<Peter82> [TheBug]: sorry for my "dumb" questions, feel free to ignore them. I am trying to learn
rpardini has quit [Quit: Gone!]
<Peter82> I allready read this post. It is more than one year old, Problem description is not there, thus I cannot verify if I have the same problem like him.
<Peter82> Solution seems to be not ideal.
<Peter82> I used a armbian Image:
<Peter82> Armbian_21.05.1_Orangepizero_buster_current_5.10.34
<[TheBug]> I don't think your question was dumb, my point is I didn't have really enough information to help answer you, so I was asking the things that would see obvious, thus 'dumb questions'
<Peter82> directly from Armbiam website: https://www.armbian.com/orange-pi-zero/
<Peter82> It is mentioned as "supported"
<Peter82> I have not manipulated anything except the armbianEnv.txt, yet.
<[TheBug]> s/see/seem
<ArmbianHelper> [TheBug] meant to say: I don't think your question was dumb, my point is I didn't have really enough information to help answer you, so I was asking the things that would seem obvious, thus 'dumb questions'
<[TheBug]> Peter82: that link I pasted references your same issue and suggests at least one solution
<[TheBug]> I would review that and try what is suggested there
<Peter82> THe Image, I think, was dedicated for this board
<Peter82> it also shows: "status = "disabled";"
<Peter82> May be I can try to set it to "okay" compile it and replace the existing one....
<Peter82> Does anybody know why status is "disabled" in the overlay which seems to be dedicated to use SPI?
DarthGandalf has quit [Quit: Bye]
DarthGandalf has joined #armbian
<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <stipa> yeah, try is your best be
<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <stipa> bet*
<Peter82> however, kernel reports:
<Peter82> [    3.164438] sun6i-spi 1c69000.spi: chipselect 0 already in use
<Peter82> [    3.164475] spi_master spi1: spi_device register error /soc/spi@1c69000/spidev@0
<Peter82> [    3.164509] spi_master spi1: Failed to create SPI device for /soc/spi@1c69000/spidev@0
<Peter82> In Allwinner H2+ Manual, I see SPI1-CS is used by UART3, which should be not active in my config.
<Peter82> It is hard to find cause for "spi_device register error..." message
<[TheBug]> huh? It's pretty self explanitory and that thread also outlines it, the SPI device isn't enabled in DTB, therefore it can't register the device because it has no idea where it is
<[TheBug]> it is 'disabled'
DarthGandalf has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
Some-body_ has joined #armbian
<[TheBug]> Peter82: uboot / DTB is like BIOS on a x86 machine, uboot is the bios, DTB is the configuration file for it. If you don't have a device brought up by the 'bios (uboot)' at boot time, then the operating system also will not know anything about it.
Some-body_ is now known as DarthGandalf
<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <stipa> yeah, it's off
<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <stipa> kernel is talking with a ghost
<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <stipa> maybe
<ArmbianBridge> [libera] <stipa> spi subsystem is off in physical reality
<Peter82> ArmbianBridge Do you think this is possible? SPi is inside the SoC H2+. I have allready worked with the very same SoC on the BananaPi Zero. It worked...
<ArmbianBridge> Peter82: Error: "Do" is not a valid command.
<[TheBug]> Peter82: I am confused, did you not read that forum post I posted now several times?
<[TheBug]> its pretty straight forward on the solution
<[TheBug]> the last post suggests the first thing I would test
<[TheBug]> sure sounds to me like you need to add param_spidev_spi_bus=1 to armbianenv.txt to me and then past that they ouline the changes you can make to the DTB to enable it... so if adding that doesn't work, directly update the DTB
<[TheBug]> also every board has a different DTB because just because it is same SoC doesn't mean they use the same devices, PMIC, wifi, nic adapter, etc
<[TheBug]> so just because something is default enabled on one image (board) doesn't mean it will be on another
