Is it true that in the current PubSub (floodsub) you can't identify/verify author/origin of messages?
Tootoot222 has joined #ipfs
<ilyaigpetrov>
well, maybe you may send a verification email and get pubsub message with secret code inside, so out-of-band verification is always possible, but my question is about ipfs pubsub only

so my daemons are constantly restarting

keks: My plan was to get it to use IPLD but got stuck extracting go IPLD DAG interfaces from go-ipfs but that's not a priority this quarter so I'm not sure on the timing. One of my motivations was to make implementing epidemic broadcast trees simpler as, in the IPLD-ified pubsub, "messages" became CIDs and the actual content (IPLD objects) was considered "gossiped data" that didn't have to be sent along all links.

keks: as for authentication/encryption, take a look at https://github.com/libp2p/go-floodsub/issues/26. My current thinking is to handle this by having all messages expire after ~30s.
<stebalien>
(where 30s is the amount of time we cache message IDs to check for duplicates/replays)

Hey guys, I'm working on an IPFS api client in Rust
<stebalien>
TheSHAD0W: As in an IETF RFC? Not at the moment. We plan on eventually getting protocols accepted piece by piece starting with multiformats (the small stuff first).
<TheSHAD0W>
TY. It's an ambitious project, and I really wanted to understand all the wire protocols.
<TheSHAD0W>
Hm. So you're utilizing BitTorrent itself as a part of the protocol stack arrangement. I'm assuming you've made a few mods to the protocol to incorporate it. I'll have to take a look.
<TheSHAD0W>
Or is "bitswap" your answer to that. Huh.
