<gde33> When trying to envision a system for rating human accomplishment (the lack of which in my view being the source of everything wrong with the human condtion) I combined many ideas and concepts but havent the time to document properly atm. As a lack of any such system produces a lot of spam some parts might be usable for some ipfs implementation. One idea was the propagation of enjoyable content.
<gde33> Each user 1) orders content, 2) reads content partially, 3) entirely, 4) likes it, 5) doesn't like it.

<grandy> Hello, IPFS is awesome, just tinkering with pubsub ... tried setting up a digital ocean droplet and doing some pubsub pubs from there, but not getting them when i sub to the same thing here... not sure if I have to manually link the peers? advice much appreciated.
gde33|4 has quit [Quit: http://go-here.nl]
<grandy> using go-ipfs on all machines... it did work when I was testing from my home lan however, two separate IPFS nodes doing pubsub, but seemingly once they are across the internet it's not working... I"m guessing I'm doing something wrong.
<Icefoz> grandy: afaik you shouldn't have to connect directly, but it may take time for various peers to know enough of the swarm to be able to find each other.
<Icefoz> It might be useful to set them up to connect directly, so you can see whether that's the problem or something else is.
<grandy> Icefoz: ahh ok, interesting. I haven't read all the docs but I assume there is a command to add a peer by ID? does the amount of traffic (or the number of subscribers) on the pubsub channel have any relation to how fast the route is learned by other nodes?

<Icefoz> I don't know about ID, there's an option in the config file to say "always try to connect to the peer at this IP address".
<Icefoz> I don't know about traffic and such. My vague impression is that IPFS is pretty promiscuous about having peers share who they know about, but I don't actually know.
<Icefoz> You can use `ipfs ping` to see if two peers can reach each other.

<b_five> so I've done something rather stupid, and it's left me wondering if there's a clear path to fix this at present. I hooked up more than one IPFS node behind a reverse proxy router (kubernetes service), and then tried to get local nodes to bootstrap off that service with exact multiaddrs. Proxy service routed requests to the same IP address to different nodes, which broke the listed multiaddrs. This mistake had horrible
<b_five> effects on my local node's peerstore, which seems to have recorded the wrong PublicKey. Is there an API for manipulating my peerstore?
azy has left #ipfs [#ipfs]
<lgierth> b_five: a restart should flush the peerstore
<b_five> ah gotcha, so peerstore isn't persisted anywhere?
<lgierth> not currently - might change in the future. anyway addresses in the peerstore also have an expiry date, depending on how they were acquired. some expire after 10 mins, some after 12 h
